Whats A Guy Gotta Do
"What's A Guy Gotta Do" is a 12 track trail-blazer from the young man who only a few years ago was a member of a band that played support to Elton John at his Killarney concert. But the allure of country music proved too strong for John McNicholl. Today, he's one of the new faces of country, winning a whole new legion of followers countrywide and further afield.
Recorded in Gerald O'Donoghue's Greenfield Studio in Headford, Co. Galway, this is John's debut album with Ceol Records. No effort was spared in this quality recording which also features the live strings of the Galway College Orchestra on some tracks.
Country followers and radio listeners can look forward to a delightful selection of songs which appear set to catapult the young Derry singer into the top league on today's circuit. There's even a country version of When You Were Sweet 16 which could be a real winner.
John brings it all back home with Hometown on the Foyle, a song penned by Derry's great songwriter Johnny McCauley and recorded in former years by Brian Coll.
He stays on the city theme with a fine rendition of the Denis Allen composition, Limerick You're A Lady. John lends further support to Irish songwriters with his version of Play The Jukebox from the pen of Eamon McPhilomy from Donegal.
His recent appearance on Glor Tire on TG4 provided a fine platform for one of country's most promising new singers.
