About Me

____________________________________________________________ __ LIVE REVIEWS...__________________________________________________ ____________ "Has anyone ever considered that a band may have been conjured up by some sort of potent/promiscuous blues bleeding overlord? Taking the likes of The Black Keys and splicing their DNA with the fingernails of John Lee Hooker and Muddy Waters? How this band of just three members can sound like a band of three hundred is their greatest achievement. Though...they could be considered reluctant to stop hitting stuff, making tiny little noises to fill every conceivable gap in the sound, still...it's clear to see who has influenced Hard Luck Child. Andy's playing style is immaculate on his trusty Antoria as he effortlessly slithers amid hard hitting low note blues riffs to high end fret board shenanigans all the while providing the band's solid grafted vocals. People always say that guitar playing shouldn't have to be complicated to sound good; just plug into a stack, whack the overdrive on 11 and make the room quake!...Still there's no shortage of complexity in Andy's sound and his brother David's simultaneously slapdash, but convoluted drum beats, together with Mathew's resilient yet edgy bass lines add up to one tangy pineapple. When met by the sheer zest of these 3 chaps, we cannot help but feel impressed. No other band during this fortnight has had the crowd gripped in such a merciless way and with the extraordinary opportunity of standing practically behind the band, REVUE witnessed the probably nontoxic horde transform obviously into a slack thumping stain loving rabble." - Revuemusic__________________________________________________ ____________ "Second helping of the blues comes from the exceptional HARD LUCK CHILD, well known around these parts as one of the best live unsigned bands in Manchester of any genre. Theirs is a fiercer, harder, bloodier flavour of the blues - a sort of sonic ambush of visceral volume from three equally vital cornerstones. Watch Mathew Henn's fingers fly up and down the bass fretboard, David Sheffield throw his whole body into a minimal low-set drumkit - and then there's Andrew Sheffield, he of the steel-lunged howl and blistering guitar. A string snaps, and there's no wussing about here, he just carries straight on with the next tune - and they're cracking tunes, too. Jack White would absolutely shit his pants if he saw these lads." - manchestermusic.co.uk_______________________________________ _______________________ "Hard Luck Child play the blues, gloriously woozy swampy angry Archie Bronson Outfit meets Soledad Brothers blues, hard on the drums and even harder on the blisteringly loud guitar. Singer/guitarist Andrew Sheffield has a powerfully gritty sore-throat howl on him whilst the rhythm section are relentless and the overall sound could probably be used to blow up derelict buildings. The set ends with Andrew standing up on his amp, his fingers and bottleneck whipping up and down the fretboard so fast you can hardly see them. This is music straight from their soul to yours, and bloody excellent." - manchestermusic.co.uk_______________________________________ _______________________ "Finally it's over to Detroit (1969 to present day) for our closing set of guitar-slinging rock'n'roll blues from the enormously-noisy-for-three-people Hard Luck Child. Kicking off with a bone-crushing 12-bar instrumental they practically sweat rocket-fuel, with vocals (rough and and gravelly - but probably not because of any throat infection) kept pretty minimal throughout as singer-guitarist Andrew Sheffield lets his distorted bottleneck riffs take centre stage. Drummer David Sheffield, too, is a delight to watch as he throws both sticks and his head into the kit like Animal Muppet whilst Matthew Henn keeps the engine running with deep churning bass power. Did I say Detroit? Nope, they're from somewhere round here, but you wouldn't know it." - manchestermusic.co.uk MyGen Profile Generator MyGen Profile Generator MyGen Profile Generator___________________________________________________ ___________ MyGen Profile Generator
