Paula Walla Bing Bang

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul.

About Me

Maybe it was fate - too little, too late... heard on the radio at 1:07am outside Alamo Drafthouse 11.25.06
I like Scrabble.
I feel more at home in my white converse tennis shoes than the town I grew up in and I know my sister can't stand them (I'm okay with that).
I like pencils more than pens. I carry my journal with me everywhere. There’s a dictionary in the floorboard of my car… Sometimes I think I write more than I talk.
I prefer my peanut butter on toast but every now and then I also like it in my cookies. Come over sometime and I’ll bake you a batch.
TV is okay but I’d rather go to the movies.
Driving around with no place to go is my idea of fun. I like to be with people but I don't like to do stuff. Sitting on my couch, or your couch, or the coffee shop’s couch… that’s enough.
I'm not sad, I just think a lot. Okay, I'm sad sometimes too (just not as much as you think).
I read every day.
I like my water room temperature but not my soda. Soda needs lots of ice. I like to eat cornflakes for dinner and pizza for breakfast.
I collected rocks when I was a kid.
My favorite flowers are the ones given to me by my daughter. Someday I'd like a house with a red door. I always know what to say but I never know how to say it. My dogs are named after cartoon characters and I have a hamster named Bob. I like the smell of brand new crayons.
I love the smell of a rainy day.
I wonder if this thing is getting too long...
I bake more than I cook and I always lick the spoon. I can't dance but I still do. I type without looking at my fingers, do you? I wish on stars and I believe they'll come true. Sometimes I go to bed with a sink full of dirty dishes.
I smile.
I twirl my hair.
I'm in love.
Simple.
This is who I am.

Music:

First, let me just say - if it plays on 107.1, kgsr, it's my kind of thing.

Second, I stole the following lists from a couple very good friends. I don't have time to type all the great music out there (come on... I have a crazy amazing four year old I'd rather be dancing with. *grin*)

Jeff's List: This stuff is good, right? Yeah. I like it too. Gorillaz, Doves, Badly Drawn Boy, Shins, Beck, The Clientele, Nick Drake, Eels, pre-Brand New Day Sting, Matthew Good, Seal, late eighties/early nineties Genesis, Ben Folds (Five), Peter Gabriel, Duncan Sheik, Death Cab, Postal Service, Porcupine Tree, Joseph Arthur, Vienna Teng, Halloween Alaska, Azure Ray, seventies/eighties Hall and Oates, baroque, the Unitards, Tom Petty

Rob's List: Mary Lou Lord, Elliott Smith, The Postal Service, Death Cab For Cutie, The Shins, Pavement, Adam Green, The Strokes, Pulp, The Libertines, Rilo Kiley (and Jenny Lewis) Oasis, Kings of Leon, Bright Eyes, Belle and Sebastian, The Stone Roses, Sunny Day Real Estate, Panic at the Disco, Weezer, The Smiths. Heavenly/Talulah Gosh, Dressy Bessy, Hole, R.E.M., Tilly And The Wall, The Faint, Willy Mason, The Arcade Fire, Nirvana, Beatles, The Jam, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Joy Division, The Clash.

Paula Walla's List: Barenaked Ladies, Diana Krall, Patty Griffin, The Cranberries, Incubis, The Shins, The Decemberists, Imogen Heap, Lisa Loeb, Billie Holiday, Slaid Cleaves, Blackeyed Peas, The Eels, Chad, Jenny Hollub, Aaron Watson, The Elms, and whatever else is playing that I know the words too.

Movies:

I can't list any recent movies. I will use the four year-old as my excuse. I can tell you I like all sorts of movies, especially ones starring John Cusack, Adam Sandler, or Johnny Depp. Those guys rock my movie universe.

Television:

In case you haven't noticed, I have a four year-old. Most television revolves around the crazy amazing four year-old. This means I watch a lot of noggin. I refuse to list shows from noggin.

Books:

My 1996 paperback Oxford Dictionary has never let me down, (same goes for) my 1998 paperback Roget's Thesaurus, The Simple Truth by Philip Levine, Life Lessons by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, Kurt Vonnegut, the short stories of Anton Checkhov, Ezra Jack Keats, Mo Willems, Anais Nin, William Carlos Williams, Langston Hughes, and a thousand others.

Heroes:

My Mom, Mr. Hively, Mrs. Allen, and lots of other people who inspire me with the cool little things they do each and every day.
