Growing up surrounded by some of the finest musicians in folk, rock and bluegrass, it was impossible for me to resist the Pied Piper of sound; I become obsessed and remain to this day in a state of enchantment.
Coming from the home town of Jimi Hendrix, Heart, Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, many, many great musicians and the Seattle Folklore Society (originators of the Seattle Folklife Festival, which now draws over 200,000 people from around the globe for the 3-day Memorial Day weekend), I can say that the musical soil in Seattle is fertile indeed.
Songs can slip past our egoic defenses to the delicate inner world of the heart. Songs can inspire us to look at our lives in a new way, while music can instantly change our mood. Is that not totally amazing?
