Formerly a techno DJ and promoter, Konnekt has been involved with DJing for more than 11 years. Konnekt started out during the summer of 1997 playing a mixture of different underground music styles including techno, house, speed garage and drum & bass. Soon he developed a special interest in the UK techno sound which was championed by DJs and producers such as Dave Clarke, Cold Dust, Paul Damage and Surgeon. Playing out under the name ‘EX’ Konnekt was one of the driving forces behind the Casino Royale techno parties which were held at Cinéclub in Herentals from 2000 until 2004 and which featured Surgeon, Paul Damage, Mark Broom and Inigo Kennedy as guest DJs among others. Being disheartened with the way techno music had evolved during these years Konnekt decided to make a fresh start when Casino Royale came to an end.
Konnekt has been a follower of the drum & bass genre ever since he came in touch with it during the late nineties through LTJ Bukem’s seminal Logical Progression compilation. Switching from a techno to a drum & bass DJ was a natural progression. Konnekt is renowned for his atmospheric, jazzy and soulful drum & bass selections mixed with a solid technique. His skills as a DJ have led him to play at several highly rated nights in the Belgian drum & bass scene. In 2007 he was also one of the winners of the Pioneer Pro DJ Contest which earned him a spot at the Go For Happy NYE event in Antwerp alongside Grooverider (replaced by Baron that night), Aphrodite and Bungle.
Keeping an eye out for anything with a deep groove, Konnekt can also be caught playing deephouse/techhouse and nu-jazz. Together with long time friend Finders Keepers Konnekt forms the Interstate Gentlemen ( www.myspace.com/interstategentlemen ), a DJ collective aimed at bringing a diversity of sounds and styles ranging from downtempo and nu-jazz to deephouse and drum & bass.
