About Me

ME: a pronoun implying 'myself;' the person speaking; objective case of 'I.' has also been known to hangout with myself and Irene. Here's what I've also heard from our press packets: Danny Mooney is a jack of all trades in the film world. He got his start acting in improv comedy shows, sketch comedy, and stand-up. Mooney has opened for such talent as actor/comedian Dave Coulier (Uncle Joey, "Full House") and Comedy Central's Dane Cook World Tour-opener J. Chris Newberg. To this date, Mooney has been cast in lead and minor parts in over 70 short and feature films, has done numerous voiceovers, and has appeared in several commercials and TV pilots. He has also performed in local theatre as well as professionally in Moscow, Russia, in the International Chekhov Theatre Festival. His most recent role was playing Drew Barrymore's fiancé in her directorial debut film "Whip It," which is due out in mid-2009. Danny Mooney has also been on the production side of over 35 short and feature films over the last few years. He has a full range of credits including Director, Producer, Director of Photography, Writer, and Editor. While in college, Mooney's awards include "Best Silent Film," "Best Cinematography," "Best Editor," "Best Director," "Best in Festival" twice, "Best Screenplay" twice and "Best Actor" four times. In 2006, he was the Cinematography Consultant along with the lead role in the film Dylan, which won "Best in Festival" at the UMEC Film Festival in L.A. Also, Mooney was also one of three students at the University of Michigan to win "The Trueblood Fellowship Award for Film Performance" (in both acting and directing), and one of three to win the award again in 2007. In early 2008, he won the "Leo Burnett Award for Film Marketing and Business" for his marketing during pre-production on the Academy Recognized narrative short Fingers, which was declared "subtle and mesmerizing… already a winner” by The New York Film Review. The film then went up against Natalie Portman’s directorial debut, Don Hertzfelt’s most recent film, the film that just won Cannes and the film that just won South By Southwest at the 2008 Hamptons International Film Festival. Among the five films, Fingers got the top vote by the festival’s audience. Mooney also received praise from Academy Award-winning Hollywood writer/critic Kurt Luedtke (Out of Africa) for his directing accomplishments in the short comedy Step, My Boy. To date, Mooney has worked professionally under numerous companies including 20th Century Fox, ABC/Disney, MTV Productions, Mandate Pictures, and New Line Cinema. In the 2007 Academy Awards, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences chose Mooney's short piece Do Fainne Sorcas as a Finalist in the Student Alternative Category, exhibiting the film with all Student Category Oscar Nominees at the Gene Siskel Film Center in Chicago. Danny Mooney received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Michigan with a major in Film Production from the Department of Screen Arts and Cultures concentrating in directing, producing and cinematography, as well as receiving a minor in Drama and Text to Performance from the Michigan RC Theatre Department. In the last month, Mooney has directed several national spot commercials, signed on with Disney to direct four pilots and directed a music video featuring Def Jam artists Big Sean, GLC and Kane West. He is currently in pre-production on several features, and is in development on projects with artists Kanye West and Flo Rida.----------------------------------Trailer for "Fingers." The story of a boy who hitchhikes from Ohio down to Nashville every weekend to play his music for a small local crowd. It’s a fun tale that won’t fail to make you laugh, think, smile, and perhaps even wonder why you do what you do.The piece stars Ben Daniels, the guitar-slinging son of actor Jeff Daniels. The supporting role is held down by LA actor Tim Brennen (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development, Desperate Housewives, Mad TV, Reno 911). The cast is then filled out colorfully by actors and musicians from around the nation including Hayes Hargrove, Deanna Glasser, Danny Mooney, Bob Geabhart, Bobby Daniels and Whitney Jordan. The crew also hails from around the U.S. with personnel from all over Michigan, New York City, Chicago, Nashville, Memphis and Los Angeles. Look for the film to be out in late spring 2008.---------------------------------...................... ..New Moon Flicks Highlight Clip Reel......................................"Hunter," a film commercial made for the University of Michigan Film Department. It's a fun watch :)..............................................This is the trailer to an action short called "USP" that I wrote and directed for M-agination Films' "Lightning" project. It will be premiering at the Michigan Theatre as part of the "Kind of a Big Deal" showcase on April 12th at 7:30pm. It's a fun little trailer, take a gander :) For more info (plus a better look at the trailer), go to www.m-agination.com ...............
...............This is a five minute internet TV pilot called "Bad Kung Fu" that myself and a few other studs called "The Fu Crew" made. The online channel did not pick it up, but they did show clips of it at their year-end screening at Cinespace in LA! It's a pretty fun 5 minutes indeed. There is a newer version out, I will try to get a hold of it ASAP. But in the mean time, check this one out! ...........................This is a teaser to a short that I co-directed last spring. It's pretty creepy and intense, not really what I'm known for, so that's why I choose to direct it. Ther teaser is about a minute and a half, a full trailer should be coming out soon. Give it a watch :).............--------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------
