About Me

Lucas Welsh was born and raised near Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan, Canada. He began taking classical violin lessons when he was 9 years old. Quickly he took an interest in old time fiddling and especially bluegrass fiddling. Along the way Lucas picked up playing guitar and mandolin as well. Lucas landed his first gig with a country/rock band called "Diamonds and Dust" when he was only 13. At the time he was playing fiddle for them. After 3 years with diamonds and dust he moved on to work with Saskatchewan Country Music Award nominated band "Steppin out" as their lead guitar player. During this time Lucas had the pleasure of working with various cabarets and other performances, one of which was working as part of a musical production written by Connie Kaldor. After graduating high school Lucas took on odd jobs to pay the bills and kept up playing with various artists as a freelance musician. During his time in the music industry Lucas has played for bands opening for such acts as Beverly Mahood and Lace, Julian Austin, Thomas Wade, and George Leach. He has had the privelage of working with such artists as John Arcand, Calvin Vollrath, Dean Bernier, Ben Crane, Ben Beveridge, numerous Sask country music association members, Danni Tibbo, The rawling Brothers, Knee Deep, Junction 40, and a host of other talented musicians. Lucas Has also in the last year recorded his first album titled "In My Dreams", as well as working with numerous other people on various other albums in the last 5 years. His work in the music industry in Saskatchewan has earned him much respect which became evident when he was nominated for Guitar player of the year 2 years in a row as well as a nomination for instrumentalist of the year once. Lucas also won the Sask provincial fiddling championships in 2003 earning him a spot to represent Saskatchewan at the invitational Canadian Grand Masters Fiddling Championships of the same year. With plans for at least one new fiddle album to be released in 2006, and another Bluegrass album in the works, as well as a full performance schedule and his constant demand for session work in the studio, Lucas is indeed keeping busy.
