As a product of the 90s, Black Lung strives to reach out to the generation he once left behind. Originally hailing from the Mississippi waters between both Iowa and Illinois, Black Lung is a different breed of rapper. Touching on subjects that we all can relate to such as women, drugs, friends and well, more drugs. He reflects his surroundings with a funhouse mirror and projects them onto rhythms with striking clarity and wit. From Iowa to Chicago, everywhere in between and around, he can be found at dive bars and large venues alike rocking crowds with an energy matched by few of his peers.With two releases under his belt and more notches on it than most 30 year olds, Black Lung has flawlessly transitioned into adulthood right before our ears. His first effort, the Fishtail LP was a powerful album, dealing with heavy subjects such as drunk driving and receiving much attention from the track "Angels." With production by Mac Lethal, it is worth more than just a listen. His sophomore effort Bad News showcased a more mature musician, showing us that he can evolve as an artist and there is always more to expect from such a young and talented person. Currently he is working on his upcoming mixtape series, The Middle Class Celebrity, with both volumes 1 and 2 on the way soon.Black Lung's music hooks listeners like the catchy vibe of a pop song and then hits them in the face with a pair of spiked brass knuckles. At what most would consider to be a young age, 19, he has experienced more than most could in a lifetime and translates his burning the candle at both ends lifestyle onto instrumentals flawlessly. He has all the potential that you had at his age with the skill that you have now. Take a listen and you might learn something.
