CAUSE HE DOES!!!"SaLt and LiGhT" ~~ Ours is an age of uncertainty and transition. Richard John Neuhaus has referred to our present culture as a "naked public square"; a "vacuum begging to be filled." Since nature abhors a vacuum, it is inevitable that eventually someone's belief system will become the new orthodoxy and someone's values will mold the new ethic. But who will serve as the architect of these values? Historically, in the absence of the church, the two forces that have stepped in to play this role have been the state and the individual. As we have seen, intrusive statism is already eroding our religious freedoms. The philosophy of state as church and state as surrogate family was very much a part of atheistic Marxist totalitarianism. A similar statist philosophy is finding support in America today among those who favor a secular humanist society. The Anarchy of individualism is very much with us as well. Our young people have no internal compass-no indelible sense of right or wrong-because modern culture has failed to give them a moral education. The amorality expressed by the media and by values clarification philosophy has taught them to be self-serving ethical relativists.(It is telling that the concept of morality is replaced in "Humanist Manifesto I" by that of morale.) Hypocricy and divorce have infected a generation with "moral illiteracy" and left them bereft of moral common sense. These serious problems will only become more critical with time. In a world in which we have forgotten God-in a world emptied of moral absolutes-nothing is worth dying for. But by the same token, nothing is worth living for. Where will we find the courage and moral determination to preserve our society, to execute justice, to champion the needs of the afflicted, to battle the powers of greed and corruption that are ceaselessly eroding our prosperity, our resources, our very sense of decency and human feeling?......peacebackground palms...Layout made by happykmd at CreateBlog.com .
