London based Bulgarian singer Eugenie is best known for her vocal and stylistic versatility - she has worked on projects as diverse as recording with Bulgarian accordion virtuoso Petur Ralchev and industrial/nu metal band EXK, participating in The Singing River at the South Bank in June 2007 and working with house/ dance label Elation Records, to mention just a few.
She is a talented lyricist and translator, equally skilled in English, Bulgarian and Russian.Eugenie remained a member and often a soloist of The London Bulgarian Choir between February 2005 and February 2007, voted BBC3 Choir of the Year 2006 in the Open category.Bulgarian folk music gradually became a great source of inspiration, leading to the birth of a new vocal formation in October 2005 - "Perunika", a trio performing a' capella, incorporating Bulgarian, Macedonian and Russian traditional songs into a broader Slavic repertoire, of which Eugenie is the artistic director (check out www.myspace.com/perunika). Their debut album received great reviews in the national and international press. To buy the album or download individual tracks please go to www.worldmusic.net.Eugenie is currently dividing her time between directing and singing with Perunika Trio and touring as a lead singer with Balkan/electro/klezmer project Max Pashm Band. Her vocals grace their new album "Never Mind the Balkans" both individually and with Perunika Trio. Eugenie appeared with both projects in live sessions for "The Ticket" on BBC World Service and "World on 3" on BBC3.
Recent recording credits include backing vocals for "Julia", the new band of Dave Rowntree (of BLUR fame), recording at Abbey Road Studios as a part of a 20-strong choir for composer Tonci Huljic ("BOND" quartet), and work for the soundtrack of the BBC period drama "The Virgin Queen", which charted at number 12 in the classical charts and won the Ivor Novello Award 2007 for Best Television Soundtrack (available from Amazon.co.uk and all good music stores). Most recently she collaborated with producer Phil Thornton for the album "Nexus Tribal" (coming out end of May 2009). A member of Natural Voice Practitioners' Network, she started a new amateur female vocal group "Slovena" which is open for everyone who loves to sing those spine-tingling Bulgarian harmonies...
