About Me

The guitar is king and pop is dead. Bands are springing up from all over the country bashing out angular chord structures and singing about clubbing and looking good on the dance floor. The bands that are breaking through on the new wave of British rock are fresh faced and barely post pubescent. Their only link with the music of the 60s 70s and 90s (lest we forget the 80s) are tracks that they may have heard their dads or big brothers playing and taken no notice of whatsoever. So the industry of amnesia moves on trying to reinvent the wheel over and over again only to end up (usually) sounding like a lame Joy Division or Television rip off. What’s wrong with recognising what went before and trying to evolve it into something for the future - not into what’s cool now, or hip now, or what the kids are listening to now, but into something that isn’t seen as cool and safe to the average super-mulleted (at Toni & Guys) art student. There’s nothing more frustrating than hearing a song you love and buying the album only to find that all the other tracks sound like reworked variations of the single and by track three you’re bored. What happened to diversity in albums like Doolittle by the Pixies or any Beatles album from Rubber Soul onwards? Or on Hendrixs’ Are You Experienced, going from the psychedelic heavy metal of Purple Haze to the dreamy bluesy The Wind Cries Mary. Diversity in sound is one of LuxNova’s strongest attributes, with their debut album "April Sun" standing on the edge of conformity. The danger/ beauty is that the album sounds like a compilation of your favourite tunes of the last four decades with a solid stream of the bands unique identity running right through it.The three piece hailing from Hampshire/London have all individually been on tour and played in bands since school, and have now come together to provide a different stance in their place in the universe of music.LuxNova have spent the last year creating their own studio and having now completed their debut album have begin work on their new album “Very Heavy Blues in e minor” which, some say, is a more natural work from a band who live by kick ass 70’s rock ideals. Preferring rock n roll excess to the art school cool scene, LuxNova are more at home with a Jack than a line. The guitar is king and pop is dead? By the time LuxNova have branded their mark, it will be.
