I am here for Serious Relationships

About Me

Moving from grace to grace and strength to strength.

My Interests

incarnation, singlehanding the dialogue of jib and main, stormclouds in the distance, congregational song, glimpses of the Kingdom come, striped pants, supple leather, sweet surrender, single-malt scotch, good descriptions, clever wits, tunnels, bridges, bridge tunnels (ex. of the Chesapeake Bay variety), the Northwest Passage, wikipedia!

I'd like to meet:

The player to be named later. Actually (and as my personal information will assure), I'm on myspace pretty strictly to meet anyone who's up for a serious relationship via internet. Bodily presence (and thus body type) doesn't matter at all to me. "Bring on the baggage," as I say. I just really think our civilization has progressed past the point of needing to be physically present with each other--who hasn't had the experience of being able to communicate fully and without hindrance on Instant Messenger or email, compared to being awkward and unsure in actual company? Come on people! We don't need to be awkward anymore! For serious emotional relationships over the internet, the ether is the limit! We can depend on where our partners will be... there needn't be any competition for occupation or silly other people getting in the way, because no one will really be there anymore! We can finally own each other's attention the way people in relationships are *supposed* to own each other. So, if you're nowhere right now, reading this in search of truly serious relationship, I'd like to meet YOU.Hold on, I just spilled a cup of sarcasm all over my computer.

Music:

The Academical Village People, Ryan Adams, Beach Boys, Mary-Chapin Carpenter, John Coltrane, Béla Fleck, Ben Folds, Fountains of Wayne, The Dappled Grays, Jellyfish, Leo Kottke, Gordon Lightfoot, David Mallett, Margot & the Nuclear So-and-So's, John McCutcheon, Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66, Edgar Meyer, Thelonious Monk, National Grain, The Roots, Kate Rusby, Solas, Bruce Springsteen, Tres Chicas, Gillian Welch, Wilco

Movies:

A Christmas Story, Benny & Joon, Casablanca, Duck Soup, Field of Dreams, The Philadelphia Story, Places in the Heart, Rear Window, Some Like It Hot, Sneakers, Strictly Ballroom, practically any Woody Allen films, Ingmar Bergman (even though his work scares me to death), plenty of Alfred Hitchcock, Good Night & Good Luck and Quiz Show--two retrospectively prophetic films that alone qualify as crash course in contemporary American society--and... Little Women, because it is lovely. For that matter, I have to throw in the made-for-TV versions of Anne of Green Gables (Megan Follows... what a babe) and Pride & Prejudice (I'd take Jennifer Ehle over Keira Knightley any day).

Television:

The Andy Griffith Show, The Avengers (with Diana Rigg as Emma Peel, of course), Doug, Due South, The Greatest American Hero, The Office, The Prisoner (with Patrick McGoohan)... I'm not particularly up to date on television.

Books:

Brother to a Dragonfly (Will Campbell), Ecclesiastes (Qohelet), Jayber Crow (Wendell Berry), The Thirteen Clocks (James Thurber), In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash (Jean Shepherd)

Heroes:

Rick Blaine; Mr. Darcy; Benton Fraser, R.C.M.P; C.K. Dexter Haven; Lord Admiral Horatio Hornblower, R.N.
