THUNDER RIDGE STUDIO is owned and operated by Dave Dion at his home in Clinton Township, MI. Thunder Ridge offers a cozy, relaxed atmosphere featuring a spacious & comfortable recording/rehearsal space with great acoustics. The room is not too damp and not too dead - just right for recording live drums and amplified instruments. The isolation/vocal room is perfect for vocals and guitar or bass amps to be used when tracking live drums. The control room features a custom built Pro Tools desk and was designed by producer Gary Spaniola with ergonomics in mind, from the correct video monitor viewing pitch to the spacing and height of the audio monitors which sit on top of the left and right equipment racks. Recording format is PC based Pro Tools LE with Digi002 interface. The Focusrite Octopre adds an additional 8 mic inputs for a total of 12 mic inputs in conjunction with the Digi 002. The audio monitors are the JBL LSR4328P's which tune themselves to the mixing room via a real-time analyzing mic. A full suite of Pro Tools plug-ins are available, including the Waves Diamond bundle. In house equipment includes a 6 piece Pacific CX Series drum kit with Paste 2002 series cymbals & double kick pedals (always mic'd up and ready to record), vintage Ampeg SVT bass and vintage Marshall guitar amplification, an assortment of bass guitars and 2 electric guitars. The control room rack features the Rocktron Basis bass preamp and the Rocktron Chameleon guitar preamp for direct instrument recording. These are nice for recording scratch tracks while tracking drums or for keeper tracks alike. Outboard effects are the Rocktron Intellifex which features fantastic reverb, delay & pitch shifting, and the Rocktron Replifex which features all the best vintage guitar effects, including delay, reverb, tremolo, chorus, flanger, phaser, auto-pan, and an awesome rotary speaker (Leslie) simulator! The main mic pre is the Joemeek VC1Q which features compression, EQ and an exciter. Mics include the Shure KSM32 condenser mic (vocal booth), the Rode NT4 stereo mic (drum room, acoustic guitars) and an assortment of Shure and Sennheiser dynamic mics.
Dave Dion graduated from the Recording Institute of Detroit in 1991 and had been working in the recording industry since then, in addition to being a well known Detroit musician/bassist with bands like Masquerade and The Brian Schram Band.
