"Hymie never stifled my career. He only enhanced it. I know kids who were named Hymie because they looked like me."
I'm an Actor, comedian, composer, singer and author. Probably best known for my portrayal of Hymie the Robot in the television series Get Smart. However, I starred as Robin Hood in the short-lived TV comedy series "When Things Were Rotten", a Mel Brooks send-up of the classic legend, as well as guest appearances on many other television programs, including Matlock, Columbo, Quincy and Murder, She Wrote.
I voiced Rodimus Prime in the third season of the Transformers animated series from 1986-1987, as well as Serpentor in the G.I. Joe series and was a narrator for Discovery Channel's Search For Adventure; I'm also known for my caricatures of celebrities.
I started out originally as a night-club comic and singer for dance orchestras. I served in the US Navy and proudly joined ASCAP in 1959. My popular-song compositions include "Like Our Love", "Lonely River" and "Quiet Place".
Was nominated for Broadway's 1961 Tony Award as Best Supporting or Featured Actor (Musical) for "Bye, Bye Birdie."
I voiced the unstable villain Serpentor on GI Joe and the reluctant second leader of the Autobots, Rodimus Prime, on Transformers.
My hobbies (who has the time?) are tennis, closeup magic, etymology and crosswords (the harder the better). I've written articles for TV GUIDE, NATIONAL LAMPOON, MAD MAGAZINE, and GENIE MAGAZINE. I've designed greeting cards, built doll houses, demonstrated pogo sticks at Macy's, painted portraits on commission and still managed to squeeze in a couple of wives, three terrific kids (Chrissie, Randy and Denise), and a few charming grandchildren.
