" A white Devonshire Lass whose voice is black, soulful gold" Paul Clarke for Birmingham Metro,
and of her appearance at the Birmingham International Jazz Festival
"Becky found favour with the festival audience thanks to her impeccable delivery, wide repertoire and the sheer verve of her performances." Andy Coleman Birmingham Mail.
"Becky Brine is a real find. Having seen her once with keyboards / drums/bass support, it was essential to see and hear her again. Last night at the Strathallan, backed by the brilliant, young violinist, Aaron Weinstein...... and melodic Pat McCarthy on guitar, Becky was in great voice. Relaxed, funny--this was a fun night of jazz....and you don’t get that every night. Thank you, Becky. Let’s hope you’ll be back next year. Oh---and what about releasing a CD???"
Birmingham international Jazz Festival Reviews
Becky has been singing all her life, but started to take it really seriously whilst studying a diploma in Performing Arts and taking part in the stage musicals "Little Shop of Horrors & Godspell" at the Bristol New Vic. Becky moved to Devon from bristol to go to Dartington College of Arts and settled....or landed...in Totnes.
"Becky is the real-deal, with a really great voice. Her versatility is amazing, she always sings and writes with passion and soul". Rob Wheeler, South Hams Radio,
Becky started to work professsionaly as a singer in 2002, with a functions trio and then went on to do a solo show. Whilst running away form a Kylie song, Becky bumped into the great American Song book and more than a few Jazz Standards and a love affair began.
Becky put together a show full of swinging standards, sultry jazzy blues and the odd show tune for spice. Working on the theory that 'you may not know you need a singer until you see one' she went out busking, performing on windy boulevards and sunny sidewalks and thus the gigs began.....
Her break came in the form of Jim Simpson of Big Bear Records, whom Becky contacted with a view to simply busking at the festival. However Jim Simpson liked her voice and brought her up to perform some gigs with some top musicians. Among them Paul Sawtell, Nick Millward & Bob Coleman, Alan Barnes, Richard Hughes, Aaron Weinstein and Digby Fairweather.
Currently, Becky can be booked as a solo cabaret performer, or with a Trio featuring piano/guitar and double bass and drums.
