Trapd'or is a fusion of three musicians from two different bands that came together late in the summer of 2005. Band members include, James Pearce (formerly of Pillbox and Spidermun as well as solo performances) on Vocals and Acoustic Guitar, Ross Turner (Of The Itallian Stallions and solo performances) on backing vocals and Bass and Tom Booen (of Nightworks, The Itallian Stallions and Welcome The Tourist) on Electric Guitar.
Between the three members, Trapd'or takes influence from a wide range of musical styles, new and old. Though initially James' songwriting grew largely out of inspiration from the bands of the Seattle Grunge movement and Britpop in the early to mid 90's, it was not long before he began becoming much more interested in other styles, particuarly Southern and classic rock, metal, early blues music, and some of the psycadelic music of the sixties. The transition to acoustic guitar has also pushed him to develop interests in Country and Americana music.
Ross' influences spread across a huge spectrum. Inluding British Invasion music through punk, post punk and prog. rock then crossing over into new music and anything that's honest and played with passion. His bass work slips carefully about the melodies of the songs and gives elevation to any sound it accompanies.
Tom's musical influences are something of a mystery with him taking snippets of many different styles. New jazz and blues rock are where he finds himself most at home but has superb versatility (listen to Nightworks and Welcome The Tourist) and plays with a soulful natural fluency throughout.
Together they create a unique sound that treads a tasteful line between originality and familiarity. The music is never trampled by over production nor is it pretentiously raw. Instead it is delivered as it is felt without over experimentation and as a result maintains an honesty and realness which adds grit to an otherwise soothing sound.
The band are currently in the process of completing thier first studio album 'Binge Thinking' which should be available some time later on in the year. This consists of a varied collection of songs documenting the band's development over the first year of them being together. The songs above are taken from the as yet uncomplete album.
