the first time i heard william honda i didn't know what to think.his quirky lauhter,his apparent schizophrenia while drunk and his orderly handiness with both power tools and organs,not mention free cigarettes,was endearing if not dangerrous.but when he sat down to play,the kid was hot,red hot and burning. hands flying over the keys of the wurlitzer electric piano;black,white,black,white,as they say in german,egal! hailing from lippe,mississippi,his influences include such greats as bobby gentry,herbie mann and led zeppelin,and i'm telling you,he pays tribute to all these on this breathtackingly original debut recording.in our studio all five organ filled square meters of it,william quickly repaired or rebuilt everything, and set hisself to work,recording on the reel to reel 8 track, bouncing his funky egg shaped head to the playback. sometimes i would sit in the kitchen, adjacent to the studio and all i could hear was laughter, a grunt or two, and an occasional "yeah baby! yeah!", he would have the headphones on and while i couldn't hear the music he was recording, i could certainly hear his enthusiasm, and i know you will too, as soon as you put the button to the songs.dear listener,welcome to william honda. -sad rockets,heidelberg,november 1999
