Lance Whear | XYRE | Velvet Crow Records | CONCIT
Hi all... most people would say i'm a caring, creative type... and of course they would be right in saying that too.
Most of my days are spent working on my artistic interests... like writing songs, playing guitar, using computers for making digital art, websites and recording music.
As you can see from my page... i like the rich, artistic approach... things with character that stand out.

I finally put up my website... it's just a simple, nice and informative one which lets everyone know about me and what i'm up to.
XYRE
XYRE, which sounds like the word 'fire', is the name of my main musical endevour, a band... well part band at the moment. This project has been a solo act for a number of years, though for about the last two, good friend Luke Hartman who has learnt a few songs and played the occasional gig also.
My song writing style for this project is usually an alternate one, with strong sounding melody and the occasional emotional outburst. I prefer too, not structuring the songs in the vain of mainstream verse chorus verse chorus bridge chorus... of all the songs i've written, i don't think many take that form at all... I'm a big fan of variety. For instance...
just the way things are
The song you're probably listening to right now 'Just The Way Things Are' does have identicle verse chorus for the first two playings.. the difference being the chorus vocal, the first time it's sung low... the second time it's an octave higher... did you pick that up??
Then there's an instrumental section with harmonics. Now in the third verse, it has different vocal lines and a slightly altered chord arrangement. Finally, it hits with the chorus which is repeated.
The production style is progressively built, added instrumentation as the songs play on.
It's a goodbye song... some things you just can't hold onto, no matter how much you want it and how much it hurts.
Playing guitar since i was a kid, on a nylon classical one which i played on for years... i've still got it too. Finger picking was what i spent most of my time doing, writing little instrumentals along the way.
I've been recording and self producing for a while now, developing my engineering abilities and changing my sound for each different disc, but have only ever released an acoustic 3 track mp3 collection called funny enough 'acoustic'. You can download a copy by sending a request for the link.. i'll make it a free link in a few weeks.
My latest recording is one called 'Moon', and is full production. The feed back i've received so far is that it sounds like sound track music... that's cool.. i like movies anyway. So if i can get my act together... it should be done by around December... My profile track 'Just The Way Things Are' is the first song on 'Moon'. You can download the song if you're sneeky enough to find it somewhere on the net.... but anyway, let me know what you think of the track.
My aim for XYRE is big sound, which might sound corny, but i call it the XYRE sound - think Entertainment Centre with 7 piece band with backing vocalists and orchestra - that's my big dream. Though for now, it's an acoustic duo... The next steps are to attain the services of a drummer, bassist, keyboardist/pianist.. i do want a violinist too...oh yeah... n some more back up harmony vocalists.
If you're musically inclined and are interested in being part of XYRE, then drop me a line. Either send a myspace message, or email [email protected], or post to PO Box 990, Miranda, NSW, Australia, 1490.
I'd like to hear from you... so don't be shy.
And just so i don't get questions asking where this crazy word 'XYRE' came from... it derived itself a few years ago when i was working out what words attached best to my music. There is a strong sense of longing within the music, and among these words was the one.. desire. It's about a deep longing for something... or someone....

I made this site totally using Flash software about 2 years ago.. and i've been very slack in updating it also.. i think there's still a gig on there promoted for October 2005.. terrible huh... so uh.. don't go to that gig cause i won't be there. I'm planning an update and revamp before the end of this year, when i release my next recording.
Velvet Crow Records
Every dog and his bone has a label these days, so i want one too. I'll release my music under 'Velvet Crow Reords', until i sign with a larger company. I'll look at releasing other people's music also one day.
I was sitting in a Chinese restaurant looking at the artworks they have on the walls, and the words 'velvet crow' popped into my head. At first i was going to use the name for a computer building / selling venture, but then thought the name was too artistic and should be linked with something creative instead.

This was the first site i made after i learnt how to incorporate CSS into simple HTML markup.
CONCIT
'Collection Of New Composers Independently Trading'
MP3 music merchant online website. An idea i've had for many years which has developed slowly, an independent shop. The thing is, i've looked at others out there and apart from a setup fee which is expected, they also take up to 70% of the sale price. Fair enough they have to pay staff, but it's hard enough to make money from selling music without retails taking most of it.
I plan on my site being for all original songwriter / composers and i want to only charge a setup fee to cover costs. I don't want to take any of the sale price.. none at all. All for the artists... that's the idea, though let's see how well it works in practice. I like the ideal though.

The site, which isn't officially up yet, was made with a few study friends. Although i had to convince them and the teacher that it was just a shop front, a shopping cart wasn't necessary. The merchant facilities are back end with third party organisations.
It was midnight in the howling forest. The wind whistled through the tops of the ancient trees. Suddenly something enormous crashed and rumbled through the eerie woods.
