In the growing death metal scene, brutality and dissonance seem to be premordial to the genre's sound. But melody is often neglected for a faster and heavier product. From the start, Beyond Death's main focus has been to fuse melody from old school and the brutality of today's metal. The band was formed in October of 2000, in Cambridge ON, Canada with Mark Dolezal on lead guitar, Mike Deighan on rythm, Andrew Bartaloni on drums, and Derek Humphries on bass. Calling themselves Nocturnal, they started jaming and experimenting with different sounds to find one that would suit them. Soon after, Alex Filipowicz joined the band as lead vocalist and the line up was ready to hit the stage and indulge Cambridge with a new sound unknown to these parts of Canada. After about a year of progression, personal conflicts led to the parting of ways with Mike Deighan and introduced a new talent in Adam Wathan. Adam's acquisition was the start of a new era for the band which renamed itself Beyond Death. This new begining led the band to play shows all accross southern ontario with other acts such as Quo Vadis, Atheretic, and Archeon. With fellow local bands such as Disgust and Mayhem Inc, Beyond Death also helped forge a growing metal fan base in Cambridge and further developed their sound as a progressive melodic death metal band.In 2005, Adam Wathan and Alex Filipowicz decided to leave the band for personal reasons. The remaining members quickly found a new guitarist in Caleb Wilson but could not find anyone to replace Alex on vocals. After a year of stand still due to side projects and conflicting schedules, the band continued to write new material even with the absence of a vocalist. Tired of this lack of progress, Beyond Death played their first show in over a year featuring renowned vocalists from the area such as Jay Mayhem (Mayhem Inc.), Brian Figueiredo (Disgust), and a special appearance by Alex Filipowicz. Shortly after this show, Alex decided to join the band to start a new age of metal to die for. After a few months of jamming, personal reasons led Derek Humphreys to leave the band. A friend of Alex's 'Chris Sooley' offered his services as bass player and now complets the beyond death line up.(c) 2003 All music and lyrics were composed and writen by Beyond Death.
