He began to emerge as a singer/songwriter at the age of 16 when he began showing an interest in music, joining several vocal groups at his art magnet school, Denver School of the Arts. Inspired during this time by composer/songwriter Jim Brickman, Anthony started to write simple songs about love and heartbreak. Growing up in the late 90’s, he was flooded with hits from rock singers like Duncan Sheik and Natalie Imbruglia as well as modern musical theater pioneers like Jonathan Larson and Jason Robert Brown. Now 20 years old, Anthony has combined aspects from modern rock, musical theater and contemporary classical styles to create a new sound from a hybrid of genres.
Anthony’s success as a singer/songwriter comes with the interplay he creates between piano and voice. Comprised from technical passages and sensitive harmonic structure, Anthony builds a fuller texture on the piano to support his simplistic vocal lines. The piano in Anthony’s songs often have more than enough content to stand on their own as complete pieces, but Anthony’s youthful, simple vocal lines force you out of the pianos intricacy, creating a synonymous relationship between the simple and the complex. Using a narrative-like lyric structure, Anthony uses a lot of internal rhyme and phrase repetition, which complement his voice.
