Born as Asia Covington in Holyoke, Massaschusetts on July 23rd of 1991, this young rapper first started getting into music at a very young age. She was always exposed to soulful and R&B music, due to her mother. In fourth and fifth grade, she found out that she could sing. After this discovery, she started taking her music a lot more seriously.
When entering into middle school, already with her artistic drawings in hand, she found out that she had a thing for writing and creating breath-taking stories about friends and everyday hardships. One day while she was waiting to go inside from a lunch break at Van Sickle Middle School, she saw a group of boys rapping. One of them being her inspiration, Dwayne Pearson. Also among them was Joseph Mondon and Ruben Zeno (JO Bricks from 50 Deep/RZX). Since that day, Asia has had a thing for rap and hip hop music.
The next year, in eighth grade, Asia started writing the minute the school year started. September 2004, is the very first time that she has written a rap verse. After writing she let her inspiration, Dwayne, read it. He said that it had flow, which gave her the second half of her rap name today. Since then, she started writing little by little and realized that she was getting better with each day that passed.
Starting high school at the High School of Commerce in Springfield, Massachusetts, Asia had taken a little break to focus on her work. She realized that she was becoming stressed and depressed very quickly. She picked up the pen and started releasing herself through her music. This helped her even more, and she started writing about everything.
In the summer of 2006, Dwayne Pearson was shot and killed in Jamaica. Hearing this, Asia wrote her most impressive song to date called "Tribute" which she dedicated to her inspiration. Still to this day, the song brings tears and memories to many who loved and knew Dwayne.
At the end of her sophomore year, Asia started her very own label called Wire Burner Entertainment. Only with herself, she started representing it all the places she could find. Asia has started to reach out to many artists in and around the area. She graduated from the High School of Commerce in June of 2009. She is heading to Bay Path College in the Fall of 2009 and will later continue her education at Berklee College of Music.
With the name Magik Flowz in many heads, she has continued to write and inspire many other female and male rappers behind her. What can the world expect from her? Nothing but good music. The unexpecting rapper can only surprise the world more.
"Prelude: Red Carpet Treatment" is the first official album from Magik Flowz. There is no release date yet. "Theme Music" will also be following this album. "A New Point of Life" is one of the most anticipated of these released and is set to come out around the middle of the year. The three part mixtape series "Party Like It's My Birthday" are being released on the three biggest birthdays of a person's life: 16, 18, and 21. "Party Like It's My Birthday: Celebrating 16 Yearz" (16 years old) will be out this year and shortly followed is "Party Like It's My Birthday Re-Up: Finally Legal" (18 years old). These two will be released this year as well as a few sneek-peeks of tracks from the third album in the series "Party Like It's My Birthday Double Re-Up: Blackjack & Liquor"
As you could see, this young rapper has many different stories to tell, many of her own and some of many others. The underground hasn't seen anything yet.
