We're the homeless gnomes and we're from Columbus, Ohio.
The band is a guitar driven, five piece combo that plays a hodge-podge of
musical styles leaning on "rock", "americana", and "progressive country". We
play almost entirely original music with a progressive bent towards social
commentary. Lately we've been cranking up the amps and sounding a lot like a
cross between Neil Young/Crazy Horse and the Drive By Truckers (except we have a
female vocalist).
Our first show was at the 2005 "Good Neighbors Picnic for the Homeless" in
Goodale Park. The Columbus Dispatch estimated 700 people were in attendance at
the event. We were well received as evidenced by the people dancing during our
part of the show. This came as a bit of a surprise considering we play all
original music and no one had ever heard our stuff before.
We've appeared at The Hot Spot on Sinclair Road, opening act for two other local
bands, Amongst the Grass and Celophane Flex.
We played at the 4th Annual Joe Strummer/Clash Benefit at Skullys Music Diner on
High Street in Columbus. While typically an electric outfit, we armed ourselves
with banjos, mandolins, and acoustic guitars and worked up some unique
arrangements of a few Clash songs for this show. A critic from The Other Paper
was dead on when he wrote, in his very positive review of the show, that we
sounded like Pete Seeger on "Charlie Don't Surf", "Sounds of the Sinners", and
"One More Time". It felt like a folk protest in New York City's Washington
Square. The only thing missing were the black berets bearing red stars". We must have forgotten to pack them !!!!
On April 22, 2006, we shared the stage with CityFolk, Selectively Deaf, and the
Grungee Chords at the Excel Academy in Newark, Ohio in support of "Relay For
Life". Over $850 was raised for that cause.
In July 2006, we played at the Roosevelt Avenue Block Party in Bexley.
In August 2006, we shared the stage with Sue Jeffers and Victoria Parks to
perform at a fund raiser for Ohio Secretary of State candidate Tim Kettler.
We were recently honored by having Porsche Lust selected as the featured song on
the myspace.com website of Ohio Gubernatorial candidate Bob Fitrakis.
We truly enjoy playing music for people. We are professional and very committed
to providing quality entertainment to our audience.
