Fermin Rivero

Heeding the words of his mentor and teacher Dave Schnitter ( Art Blakey..s Jazz Messengers) Fermin Rivero left his native Tenerife in the Canary Islands in 1990 in search of a change of musical direction. After successfully having toured and gigged throughout Spain and the Canaries with the vibrant Salsa music scene, including sharing stage with such Latin giants as Celia Cruz and Oscar de Leon, he settled in Manchester, where he quickly immersed himself in the growing North Western Jazz scene.From pubs to clubs (100 club, Pizza Express, Manchester..s Band on the Wall) and festivals throughout the UK he played with many of the best up and coming UK Jazz musicians including including a tour of the North West with Roy Powell and Mike Walker, debuting original compositions sponsored by the North West Arts Board.Still in search of musical diversity and experiences, he relocated to California , US in 1998 and there toured and gigged extensively in numerous groups and combos raging from modern Jazz, Blues, Gospel, R n B, Funk, Rock and both Jazz and Latin Big Bands including session work in Los Angeles and regular gigs at the Monterey Jazz and San Diego Jazz Festivals.Fermin has since relocated back to Tenerife, Islas Canarias.
