Behind The Beat, Episode One: Havana Night
..My name is Marcos Garibay. I’m a 23 year old Latino Producer/Recording Artist/Performer/Dancer/Songwriter/ and businessman. My brother Armando and I started our production company, The Blackout Beat over 5 years ago. We produce a very unique style of Fusion Music that is very mainstream. Our style blends Reggaeton, Hip Hop, R&B Merengue, New Wave, Salsa, Flamenco, Cha Cha, Bachata, and Rock. We are very diverse producers but we are equally diverse as songwriters. I am also a artist and producer myself. I have actually just begun work on what I consider to me be my first solo effort. Aside from the creative work I also handle the majority of the business and marketing efforts for The Blackout Beat.
I funded the production company by starting a yard service. Aside from cutting grass, we have also funded Blackout by doing many fundraisers and events. It has not been a easy road to get to where we are but I would not trade the expeience for anything in the world. I have learned so much over the last 5 1/2 years. The Blackout Beat functions as a well oiled machine and we are making so much progress that it is unreal to me at times. I think that 2008 will be a great year for us and our music.
In an effort to expand our knowledge and add to our credentials I have enrolled in Berklee University’s Online Music Degree Program. I am currently working on a degree in Music Business and Studio Production. I believe this will make me and The Blackout Beat more viable to the industry and entertainment world.
In addition to the production company and music business school I DJ and promote Pueblo Colorado’s only Salsa Night. Me and my father teach lessons, both group and private. Dancing has always been a big part of my life. In fact, its how I got introduced to the stage and to the entertainment world.
As a child my two brothers and I grew up as star dancers in my mother’s dance company, Ballet Colores Latinos. The Dance group performed regional Mexican, Salsa, Flamenco, Hip Hop, Tango Merengue, and even Hip Hop. Looking back I can see that this is where I really fell in love with music and the feeling I get when I’m performing. Unfortunately the group ended abruptly in 1998 when my mother died in a one car accident on the way home from a out of state performance. My mother and two other dancers and friends also died in the accident.
I believe that that moment had a lot to do with why I am the way I am and why I think the way I do. I know that everyday is not guaranteed. This is why I’m able to fit so much into each day. The challenge for me has been to not get consumed in my dream. There is much more to me than Blackout and sometimes I loose sight of that. I’m getting better at balancing everything and everyone in my life. A lot of people have told me that I should make a personal non-music page but I honestly don’t think I would be able to keep up with it. Its hard enough for me to keep this page up! If I did have my own personal page I can guarantee you it would be very funny. So as a compromise I will be doing more personal blogs and try to slip in more of myself into this page. Believe it or not Im actually a very funny, intellectual, goofy, and humble person. Feel free to message me to see what I’m talking about! I return every message, even if it takes me a while to get to it!
I have many goals for 2008. The biggest one is to “get my foot in the doorâ€. I want to get into the industry and be able to support myself and my endeavors solely through The Blackout Beat. I totally believe this is possible. In addition to the above I would like to increase the amount of media coverage and exposure we get, drastically. My brother and I would also like to produce and write for more artists from all over the world. If you are a artist out there who takes your music seriously feel free to contact me.
I cannot stress that we are only interested in working with SERIOUS and PROFESSIONAL people. We have wasted way too much time with fake local “artists†or people who can talk a big talk and not do much else. We don’t manage artists, we don’t develop artists who don’t have drive, and we ARE NOT A RECORD LABEL!! I have found over the years that my idea of drive, ambition, talent, and seriousness, usually differ drastically from many “artists†I’ve encountered. We prefer to work with people with a track record that way we can have some proof other than the artists word about how serious they are.
Thanks for taking the time to checkout my page! If you have any questions or comments feel free to contact me! I hope you like the music!

Pimp My ProfileThe Blackout Beat is a full service production company. The Blackout Beat offers top notch, original, and professional music production, song writing, and music publishing services. The Blackout Beat also offers music marketing services, event planning, and artist development/ consulting services.
The Blackout Beat was started in 2002 by Marcos Garibay immediately after his high school graduation. Marcos also started a lawn service to fund the young production company. Eventually, lawn mowing and many fundraisers led to a professional studio. However, it took a few more years before Marcos and his brother Armando developed their signiture sound that attracts recording artists from all over the country. In the last 3 years Marcos and Armando have produced several songs for many artists from places that include Puerto Rico, Boston, California, and New York City. During this time Marcos and Armando have also released several successful mixtapes, including the very successful This is NOT The Revolution Mixtape, which is currently being listened to in over 16 countries, including the US, the UK, Japan, and Russia!
Marcos and Armando have also made a name for themselves by the events that they have organized. Havana Night, The White Party, The Lights Out Concert, and Dancing With The Coyotes were all very successful in 2007. These events have enriched the cultural diversity of South Eastern Colorado while spreading Marcos and Armando’s sound.
One event that occurs more regularly is Salsa Night. For the last 3 years Marcos Garibay has DJ’d, promoted, and organized Pueblo, Colorado’s only Salsa Night, playing the hottest Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, and Reggaeton.
By looking further back it would seem that music and entertainment has been in the Garibay brother’s blood for more than the 5 years of Blackout...
Marcos and Armando grew up as start dancers in their mother, Ramona Garibay’s dance company, Ballet Colores Latinos. The group performed regional Mexican Folklorico, Aztec, Salsa, Merengue, Zoot Suit, Tango, Hip Hop, and Flamenco. Unfortunately Ballet Colores Latinos came to a tragic end in 1998 as three of the groups members died (Ramona Garibay, Mallory Gonzales, and Virgina Chavez) in a one car accident on the way home from a out of state performance in Kansas.
2008 started with Marcos and Armando are busy promoting The Blackout Revolution album while working in the studio with their artists Juan Alvarez, Danielle and Reflecshaun. In March of 2008 The Blackout Beat released Radio Edit: The Reflecshaun Mixtape, the artists first solo effort that also featured production entirely by The Blackout Beat. Soon to follow, Juan Alvarez will release his first solo album titled Live @ The Rojas. Other projects include Revolution 1.5 (remix album), singer Danielle’s untitled mixtape, Armando Garibay’s compilation album called TBA, and Marcos recently begun work on his first solo effort.
Aside from the projects listed above Marcos and Armando Garibay have gained much notoriety in 2008 with many new paper and magazine features that included Hispanic Living, The Pueblo Chieftain, and cable network Si TV featured Marcos Garibay as its Spotlight Personality during the month of January!
Events, music production, and more live performances are in the near future for The Blackout Beat. Marcos and Armando have also begun reaching out to other artists in hopes of securing new production jobs or deals. For more information please contact The Blackout Beat. Pimp My Profile
