Music
Click to check out my record label/bands : Obliq Recordings / Multicast , Multicast - Bio for trying to get gigs , Freq Modif, Tone Anglers , Replicast .Native to Colorado. Grew up in the small town of Johnstown and was sheltered from most music in the 80's due to being in a small town and not having cable TV. Slowly I began discovering electronic music via the radio and The Finest Records in Greeley--with their influx of used material from folks coming to the University there--fueled my desire and discovery of new music. My older girlfriend at the time took me dancing in Fort Collins when I was 15 and that bar advertised a "alternative night" on Tuesdays...that exposure focused me on the Goth/Industrial/Synth Pop scene. Sneaking out of a high school fieldtrip in the "big city" (Denver) to Wax Trax records tuned me into a whole new world. Upon entering college I started DJing at KUCB (now KVCU) campus radio and DJing the local campus club. I was buying anything I could get my hands on musically--mainly dance/techno oriented stuff--and started messing around with composing. I then became resident at the Express Club in Boulder and shortly thereafter became resident at the Marquee Club in Boulder. I was also DJing warehouse and private parties along with my multiple radio shows. I was DJing 4 to 5 nights a week in the clubs during this time; and also 6 to 12 hours on the radio. I hooked up with Nathan Jantz and Jefferson Holland and formed Multicast and Obliq Recordings. During this time I also worked at Albums on the Hill and started ordering DJ-oriented records and CDs with Nathan. Here my exposure was at its peak. Unfortunately Boulder was not the place for the Industrial, EBM, and European/Detroit techno that I was trying to push and my addiction to Analog Synthesizers forced to enter the "real world" doing Business Software development in 1995. I am an aficionado of Analog synthesizers and I build my own too. I continue to work with Multicast and other projects (see http://obliq.net). I also continue to enjoy and expand my record collection; although it seems most electronic music is just rehashed from prior generations; so I find I'm buying less and less "new" stuff because many of these records sound just like older material that I bought 15-20 years back.
Tornado Chasing
I love nature, especially weather...bad weather.Been chasing since I was seven with my dad. If I see dark clouds coming (or going) I can't help myself; I have to check it out. I love tornadoes, but I love storms in general; so not seeing a tornado after 500 miles isn't that big of deal; but is definitely icing on the cake! I use cool tools like Doppler Radar and GPS in my car to make the chase safer and more successful. I'm out on the plains during most Colorado/West Kansas/West Nebraska days during May/June each year. Gonna explore the magic of the Texas Panhandle again this coming year and intend to do a lot of Kansas trips too!
The best place to view a storm like this is directly in its path!!!
Flexi/Cardboard Records
Been collecting these for years. They sound like crap but something about them, maybe the pictures or "odd" nature attract me to them. Since the invent of ebay I've collected many. I'm working on a musuem site that will hopefully be live in mid-2008.Kids
Of course, being a parent I have two great kids made in part by my wonderful partner and am trying to introduce them to my old school ways. My son took one of our 2x12" LPs to school for show-and-share and no one, not even the teachers (they were young) knew what a record was! They love playing with daddy's gear and unlike most folks I let them play to their hearts content; although with the modulars daddy has to be around! Hunter's favorite piece is the 808. Daphne likes the patchbay, although she is quickly becoming a keyboard guru! ;)Arcade Games
I used to hang out in the Arcade every chance I could get. I love video games and pinballs; but I've never been a fan of "shooter" or "fight" games so most contemporary games do not interest me, although the graphics are cool. I'm a MAME and emulator type guy! I'm currently hacking my old Xbox to emulate TI-99/4 games I wrote when I was 13! I own a Galaga cocktail and have modded it with clock doubler chips (unlimited firepower!, 3x left/right movement!), and the high score chip (which doesn't hold the million digit when you roll it over on P1). Can you name the level?I just sold my Asteroids Deluxe cocktail and replaced it with a Tron cocktail. Just received the "free play" chip and will be installing this soon! I have a unique 3-in-1 Dragon's Lair (w/Space Ace and Dragon's Lair 2 built in...one of a kind machine)! Recently I just scored enough to own the world record at Dragon's Lair, I'm going to film it so it can be official! I love Don Bluth and have many original cels, hand drawings, marketing material and other goodies related to Dragon's Lair. Been also enjoying my X-Arcade Tankstick! What a wonderful control surface!
