CJ Davis

My name is CJ Davis and I have been, for as long as I can remember, a big fan of Trance / Dance Music. Before I was aware of the trance genre, back in 1998, I took part in playing many classical piano ballads and was strictly focused on music theory. I soon realized that I actually enjoyed the art of improvisation much more than the ability to read music. Considering, improvisation became one of my interests, jazz music soon became one as well. Once I got into high school, I decided to join the jazz band and contribute as a pianist. While in this band I was able to experience my first live shows and I received multiple honors while holding my position. I eventually quit the jazz band after being part of it for 3 years. Soon after this, I realized how amazing the Trance genre was. My first attempts as a producer happened in late 2003. I started out using Sony Music Studio and straight audio recordings. It was within these moments, that I knew where my true passion stood. As I continued, I came across Fruity Loops and started becoming more situated with MIDI recording. I fell in love with the accuracy I was able to achieve with MIDI recordings and I was able to eliminate my previous issues with tempo. I then moved on to Reason 3.0 which really sparked my versatility. I struggled with the finer details such as equalization for quite a while. Inevitably, I was able to improve my mistakes but I later got to a point where I was missing something. Ableton Live, as I discovered, was that missing piece. I currently use Ableton Live and it has proven to be superior to many other forms of software. I have finally, after almost 5 years, been able to produce a somewhat professional sound but, I know there is still an extensive road ahead. My persistence and motivation will continue just as long as I am able to surround my self with people that have my common interest.
