KEV - THE PAINTER & THE ARTIST

About Me

When looking back over the events and moments that shaped his life and musical ambitions, it is easy to see how Toronto-native Kev has emerged as one of the most energetic and exciting young talents on the Canadian dance/pop scene. His freshness and energy is abundantly apparent on his independent solo debut CD, The Painter & The Artist. Even in his formative years, it was obvious that Kev was meant to be a performer. At the precocious age of nine, he was taking violin and piano lessons, and eventually ventured into acting classes. During his high school years, Kevs acting talents earned him extra work in a variety of Canadian television shows (Road to Avonlea, Due South) and films (The Mighty, and a handful of Disney features). Kevs expanding interest in the world of theatre led him to Torontos Trinity Theatre, where he found work as a production assistant to the director of the theatre, Robert Munoz. Never one to shy away from hard work, and ambitious enough to do whatever it took, Kev earned his stripes at the Trinity Theatre doing whatever needed to be done putting up promotional posters, selling tickets, painting sets, manning the phones, sending out emails and faxes, running actors through their lines, and organizing staff schedules. His love of performance allowed him to develop his skills in various avenues dancer, choreographer, stage manager, makeup artist, even costume design. Often times, it only takes one significant moment to change the course of a persons life. For Kev, that moment occurred one late night at the Trinity Theatre. Mr. Munoz was on his way out, when he heard Kev, alone in the theatre, cleaning up after the nights performance, singing along to a nearby radio. Munoz was duly impressed, and asked Kev if he would be interested in singing on the soundtrack of the play, Aesops Fables. The next day, Kev went into the studio to record the song Sour Grapes. The overwhelmingly positive reaction to the song led Kev to pursue music on a serious level. After studying record production and music business at a prestigious Toronto college in the spring of 2001, and further developing his network of music industry professionals, Kev decided it was time to get serious about his musical ambitions. He enlisted the services of one of his former record production instructors, Toronto-area artist/producer Trevor Marshall, to produce his debut CD, The Painter & The Artist, engineered by Jeff Wright and Steve Benford at Torontos Studio 306. Its just a fun, happy record, says Kev, with a few bumps in the road. There is a story here if you listen closely, and with an open mind. Kev describes the albums ten songs as being catchy, and total pop. Key focus tracks include the radio-friendly Differences, Back Door, and Be My Baby. But theres also a more reflective hue to the album as well, specifically in songs such as Mirror, and Upside Down. Upside Down was the most challenging song to write it deals with a lot of inner conflicts and confusion. For artists to survive and succeed in the ultra-competitive music industry, they must have a fervent belief in their talents, and in the message theyre trying to deliver. Kev clearly has both, and is anxious to share his passion for music with everyone. I invite you all into my world, where anything goes and everything is possible. The ten songs on the CD, with standout radio, club and dance tracks including Back Door, Everyday and Differences, should put Kev exactly where Kev belongs.---------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------Hi Fans,I wanted to let you know about some big things that are happening in the world of KEV.
