From the ashes of such Pinoy Rock icons as Razorback, Gnash, DogBone, Brainsalad and Wolfgang, comes DRT!
DRT is the premiere hard rock band from the Philippines formed by the remnants of big name bands of the 90s. In the middle of 2003, while at Sanctum--an artsy hang-out in the old Spanish fort of Intramuros--vocalist/songwriter Jay Ortega noticed that he was in the midst of Pinoy rock greats, the likes of Manuel Legarda, Miguel Ortigas and Paulo Pacia, who were all taking a hiatus from the local music scene. Jay approached Miguel with the idea of getting the guys together to form a band, a super-group if you will. And thus, DRT was born.
A few rehearsals later and the gang played venues all over the metropolis, namely the Rock Radio Café in Alabang; Peligro, T.G.I. Fridays, Saguijo and Halo in Makati; 70s Bistro and Big Sky Mind in Quezon City; and Sanctum in Manila. With Miguel on drums, Manuel on guitar, Paulo on bass and Jay on vocals, DRT soon wrote and recorded a few demos which later mutated into a much larger sound with the introduction of Martin Jamora on the keyboards.
With the imminent departure of Miguel Ortigas to the United States of America, DRT called on Razorbacks Brian Velasco to take over the skin pounding duties.
After finishing the album with the band, Manuel Legarda had to forego playing for the super-group in exchange for a blissful married life with wife Sian In his stead the band hired guitar virtuoso Daniel Crisologo.
With all the changes going on, DRT still maintained its sound and has been topbilled in big events such as The Marlboro Red Racing School Kick-Off Party, Oakley X, Pulp Summer Slam, Fete De La Musique, The Oakley Bionetwork Challenge, and many more.
The band currently has four singles getting airtime on NU107 - Dirt which stayed on the midnight countdown for over 9 weeks, plus Bosyo, and Pieces, which have done well to showcase the bands versatility. A fourth single Impyerno has also been released as the carrier single to coincide with the album launch and video launch last May 19th in Bela Bar, San Juan.
A fifth single "Mine" has just recently been released for a broader spectrum of FM radio stations and a whole new target audience. The video for the single will be released by early next year
DRT has slowly developed a very responsive and loyal fan-base. We currently have hundreds of overzealous members in our mailing-list
