About Me

I'm languishing in Gainesville for a few more years (year?), and apparently have a very difficult time describing myself. I love humor ranging from the subtleties of Gosford Park to the kitschiness of the Family Guy, and have occasional bouts of wit. I like to consider myself relatively well-educated, and well-read, and able to hold an interesting conversation. I've got intellectual leanings, but I try not to be (genuinely) pretentious. That doesn't stop me from enjoying a good cup of coffee, though.
Right now I'm in a stressful IT job at the College of Dentistry, but spending time with my girlfriend Oakley is great stress relief. I'm also taking all the personal time I missed out on last year during the work-up to the play The Complete History of America (abridged). Some people are shocked by my new non-socialness, others not so much.
I have an interest in linguistics that waxes and wanes with the amount of inspiration I have around me, but it seems that people only speak Spanish around here. I'm conversational in German, if a bit rusty, and have a newfound interest in Russian. I can also make it to the bathroom if given instructions in Spanish or French. Also working on my C.. programming, which is yet another (albeit different kind of) language.
I'm terrified of being bored, and like to find new things to do and new places to visit, both here in Gainesville and out of town. Spring has brought my biannual wanderlust, so I'm lining up a list of places to visit.
I'm more like Big Jim Slade than I let on.
Latin music and swing/lounge make my butt move. I can't help it. Can't dance to them well, either. Doesn't always stop me, though.
I like to eat at local places as opposed to chains, and will go out of my way to find one. I also like to cook, but only if it's not for me alone. My leftovers are never as good as they were fresh. I also have bouts of curry addiction, where I have to have it, and can't seem to stop. It gets rather silly.
I'm also irritated when people start a sentence with, "I'm sorry, but....". I'm a firm believer that the word "issues" is for magazines; "problems" isn't a bad word.
I can't seem to stay away from IMDB.
I'm tall.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Dorks, geeks, and nerds. Fun dorks, geeks, and nerds, actually. But not too many.

Also, Ben Burtt.
