About Me

Tom Fair has been writing songs since December 1965. In 1966 he hooked up with the Left Banke ("Walk Away Renee") as lyricist and thus began his professional career in music. Through the late 60's Tom began a pace of writing an average 50 songs a year - he's over 2000 songs and still going strong! As a pianist and guitarist, Tom appeared on Left Banke Too, the group's second album, and joined them as an instrumentalist on several road trips in which they shared the bill with The Beachboys, Turtles, Mamas and Papas, Question Mark & the Mysterians and Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels. In 1970, Tom formed the band Ben Gunn with David Paul Wesley ("The Whip"), Jerry Hawkins ("The Hawk") and Jake Hooker, who went on to form The Arrows with Alan Merrill (Merrill & Hooker wrote the classic "I Love Rock 'n' Roll). In the early '70s Tom founded his own band, Eightballs. The group played throughout northern New Jersey and shared the bill at the Mercer Arts Center with a number of bands and artists from the emerging punk scene, including Patti Smith and the New York Dolls. Tom founded his own record label in 1978 with the release of "Mr Record Man (Pay Me A Hundred Grand"). Soon he got married and delivered (yes, he was the doc!) four children, one of whom - Robin Feher is on MySpace today and a great songwriter/performer. In 1991, Tom founded the Tom Fair School of Music in Los Angeles and has been teaching ever since. He's also been producing and promoting musical events and recording sessions for about a decade. Look for his show announcements.***BE SURE TO TURN OFF AUDIO PLAYER BEFORE STARTING ANY VIDEO***THIS VIDEO (ABOVE) BY CHARLEMANGE, OF TOM'S "GOODBYE HOLLY," ORIGINALLY RECORDED BY THE LEFT BANKE IN 1967DESIREE (above) WAS THE FINAL CHART RECORD BY THE LEFT BANKE - AN ADVENTUROUS PRODUCTION FOR IT'S TIME, WITH A SEVENTEEN PIECE ORCHESTRA, RECORDED IN THE LEGENDARY CAPITOL STUDIOS IN NYC WHERE FRANK SINATRA DID SOME OF HIS BEST WORK.
