American Repertory Ensemble (ARE) is a contemporary-classical ballet and chamber music company that produces high quality, intriguing, and accessible performances. With Artistic Director and choreographer David Justin's vision, ARE is committed to the creation of new work in the presence of masterpieces. A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2005 in Austin, Texas, ARE's mission is to celebrate dance, music, and life through innovative performance. Bringing principal dancers from ballet companies all over the country to perform with local chamber musicians on stage together, ARE focuses on the convergence and interplay of dance and music. ARE received 11 Austin Critics Table nominations in 2007 and has been named a "Top 10" dance and classical music event by the Austin Chronicle in 2006 and 2007. Sounds Like: When your roster of artists includes dancers from the Joffrey Ballet, Boston Ballet, Atlanta Ballet and Oregon Ballet Theatre, musicians from the Tosca String Quartet and two Artistic Directors that are already rising stars in their respective disciplines, your work has to meet some seriously high expectations. After seeing DIALOGUES, American Repertory Ensemble's first performance event - a highly professional, intelligent, inventive and entertaining evening of music and dance - we think ARE lives up to the hype.
(Jonathan Morgan - The Austinist)

The evening witnessed the birth of a truly world-class performing arts organization here in Austin. The world-debut performance of the American Repertory Ensemble proved an auspicious beginning for an organization with an ambitious goal: to integrate music and dance into equal performing partners in the performance event. This "new model of the concert experience" (to quote ARE's website) is one of ARE's main goals, and I found myself so engaged by it that I began wondering why the musicians have always been hidden away all these years. [It] did not distract from the enjoyment of the dance; instead, it added a wonderful texture of immediacy that made the performance all the more powerful.

The cup overfloweth when it comes to dance at the 2006 Festival Fringe. One of this year's highlights is the Austin-based American Repertory Ensemble. It is welcome treat to enjoy both dance and music together and separately in a single Fringe performance. American Repertory Ensemble is a welcome addition to the Festival Fringe...You won't see finer outside the International Festival!
(Kate Snedecker- Critical Dance.com)

There are always hidden gems tucked away in the massive programme of over 28,000 performances on the Edinburgh Fringe. It is like a cultural treasure hunt and if you can find just one of these unexpected jewels then it makes the Edinburgh experience so much more fulfilling. And so it was with the American Repertory Ensemble. The excellence of the repertory was enhanced by its diversity...Not one minute of the programme was wasted and all seventy of them amounted to a rare visual and aural treat. I am just so glad that I happened to be in the right place at the right time to catch this new company's world-debut performance. I can be sure that it will be planning, not serendipity, that will renew the acquaintance.
