SIMON K

Simon K began when he was 13 years old. On that time he used to listen to different types of music and sounds related to “funk”, “soul”, “trip hop”, “hip hop”, etc. Two of the types of music that were always important for him were classical music and jazz, which allowed him to develop his musical work. He used to listen also to Prodigy, which was one of his first electronic influences later a strong influence. He was highly influenced by lots of Dj’s like Carl Cox, Jeff Mills, Tom Stefan and others. This was when he discovered one of his great passions: Djing! When he was 14 he started Djing more seriously. He started by mixing “House music” and became a Dj without any fixed timetables. When he was 16 he started working with Drum and Bass and got his references from LTj Bukem, Mc Conrad, roni Size among others. He quickly realized the best way of getting his records and started going to the DNB monthly parties in his city, Porto. The passion and the skills for music started to increase and he quickly became anxious for his parties. It was when Urban Exodus organized a DNB party in Feup: his very first one. At the party there were several Dj’s but one of them, Subway, changed Simon K’s way in the Drum and Bass national circle. Later on Simon K was contacted by Marco Martins, the owner of the company “Garagem”, which is the main promoter of Drum and Bass in Portugal. The purpose of it was the participation to monthly play in “Garagem Dj’s” in Porto Rio. This invitation was a big opportunity for him as a Dj. After this he was invited to play in big parties organized by the company “Garagem” where he played with SubFocus, Dj Hype, Chase and Status and Pendulum. Then he officially became part of the company in its anniversary party “Ten years of Garagem”, which became a very important matter in his curriculum and which helped to consolidate his name among other professionals. At the moment he is interested in musical production, area which was always cativating for him. His own DNB style is defined by Jump Up with a strong sound, which is charecterized by a strong beat and a nasty bass.
