About Me

Dj Fonik.. Past....Present...Future.... 1991 was the genesis of a journey for Fonik in learning & influence through music. Introduced to Hip Hop culture by his uncle, the influences of Grandmaster Flash, Rakim, Dre and others enticed his interest in learning how to create music. Starting with some tape decks, a turntable and a radio shack mixer he experimented in reproducing and dubbing sounds he had heard in Hip Hop songs. He was properly introduced to mixing in 1993 in Minneapolis by DJ Fresco, a resident DJ at 1st Ave. Shortly after he picked up a Vestax mixer and set of turntables and began to self teach scratching, beat juggling and mixing. Through out high school was known in Salt Lake City for rocking parties with a group of friends that also DJ’d.After moving to Phoenix AZ, he connected with DJ Muzic of First Element & DJ Earth at that time a Power 92 DJ as their apprentice in learning to DJ on a higher skill level. He was introduced to innovative technique that was being created by Radar and Z-Trip of the Bomb Shelter DJs at the time. Fonik then linked with 602 Productions and D&B DJ Ariel from Jerk Crew and stepped into to multi-music-genre raves where DJ’s like Mix Master Mike, Q-Bert, The Beat Junkies, The Visionaries, 5th Platoon, Jazzy Jeff, Bomb Shelter DJ’s and many other hip hop titans innovated turntablism. He witnessed first hand the history of hip hop un-fold as Radar took turntablism into the halls of ASU and performed in a concerto with the symphony orchestra. With an equipment malfunction, Fonik was forced to learn to use one turntable and a mixer due to lack of funds. Developing a high skill level of scratching, he was a mentor to a handful of DJs in 602 Productions.Around 2000, he began battling in Guitar center Spin-Offs and joined forces with DJ Akshen!?!.... Akshen also mentored Fonik in turntablism, battling and most importantly being a well balanced DJ in all aspects of the art….Akshen!?!, DJ Kaos and Fonik combined to form Kreative Development Krew. Using more refined skills, Fonik took turntablism into venues throughout Phoenix such as The Bash on Ash and The Nile performing with rock bands Muckworm & Idlebinde. He took on the production aspect as well with Kreative Development mixes and recordings with the rock band Sectas.Latter 2001, life and education took him back to Salt Lake City where he was introduced to DJ Aspect who coincidentally had been influenced into DJing from seeing Fonik rock a house party during high school years. DJ Aspect joined Kreative Development and they both took mission to rock side by side in house parties through out the Salt Lake City valley. During this time he also worked at the Rose Wagner Theater running the sound boards for events for the city.Fonik’s career took him to Portland where he connected with 5th Sequence. They both knew from the beginning that the collaboration was meant to be and began to hone their combined skills to a higher level of music production. They both shared the same music vision and created Soul Circle, North Science and Soul Channel Records to take their collaborations to a global level.Fonik continued to DJ clubs with residencies in Vancouver WA & Portland OR. He became a member of Funk Shop DJ’s when DJ Biggs scouted him out at a club in Vancouver. With Funk Shop DJ’s Biggs, Saint and Remix, he opened for hip hop acts including Bubba Sparxxx, Soul P & 2 Live Crew..Between 2006 and 2008 the production of Soul Circle matured to the level where many doors where opened because of the shared talents and networking. Various artists globally were crossing their paths and they sought out voices in the collective consciousness of music that shared positive messages of life tunes… Away from the radio rap that deteriorates minds, degrades women, is rooted in the evil of money and violence…The mission became like the name… Fonik… To learn and teach through sound… Soul Circle expanded into the East Coast with MC/Producer Optix from New York and Skahlah from the LP crew from New York/Tokyo Japan who carries a wealth of experience in his travels around the globe. On the West Coast, Fonik, 5th Sequence and Kid Icarus compliment the voice of their East Coast counterparts…Currently all members of Soul Circle are engaged in album productions in light of sharing the fruits of their works scheduled for 2008 and for many future years to come…http://www.myspace.com/deejayfonikMyGen Profile Generator
