1995 - 1999
The Reel Fiction project was born in Berlin in the summer of 1995 to Marcello Schirru, former keyboarder of Death SS, who escaped from Italy to avoid the draft. The idea was to create a "multinational" rock band in the Post-Wall-Berlin, a city of great cultural scene and crispy nightlife. The first demo "Power of Picture" had an original sound, reflecting the bands different nationalities (American, Swiss, German, and Italian band members). Gigs started in Berlin and vicinities soon followed by a second demo "Hands On", and a mini-tour in Switzerland and Italy. The creative work went on with another demo "Fixed", featuring a Yugoslavian singer who gave an extra boost to the sound and eventually recorded the fourth demo "Reel Fiction". That demo got good reviews on the most influential European metal-magazines, and so they began to play with bands like Laberinto, Nevermore, Iced Earth and X- Rated. After this intensive period, the band remolded the line up, picking up an Australian singer and a new bass player. "Jungle Madness" was recorded: a bright, cutting blend of continental Nu-metal and Italian melody. The CD, produced by Ronald Thiele (drummer of Dreadfull Shadow) and Thommy Hein (famous for his work with bands like Rammstein), became a "Top Demo" to many important European magazines.
2000 - 2002
Some members of the band got homesick and decided to leave Berlin and the band. Marcello moved back to Italy and began the project anew, with an all-Italian line-up. The 4-years of German experience and sound were now blended with the Mediterranean soul and sun. "Burning Inside" went to light, recorded once more by Ronald Thiele of Dreadful Shadow in Berlin. Less experimental than the previous album but stronger, the CD is a mix of Nu-Metal, Crossover, and Pop-Rock with some magic dust. For two years "Burning Inside" called the attention of music magazine (like Metallus) and fan-sites. It got very good reviews in Metal Shock (10/10), and Psycho (7/10) who put the song "Noisy Room" in its Psycho Compilation. Lots of concerts and gigs were held across Italy and Northern Europe, and eventually the band played as supporting act for some big Italian groups like Extrema, LACUNA COIL and Sadist. As Marcello wanted to continue to move further with the band, two members decided to move to London to pursue their own projects. But Reel Fiction was not dead!
2003 - 2004
With their experience in finding and matching new talent to work with the band, in the summer of 2003 Reel Fiction made a new turn with a new line-up. They brought in the female singer Mary, known as very young, fresh and talented in the town. The band immediately proved its professionalism and determination. After some months they recorded a new demo CD "Get On", an explosive fuel of female voice and heavy riffs. They played live more than ever. In September 2003 they were a supporting act for Shandon's concert in Sardinia. It followed a long period of interviews, live gigs and good reviews and in July 2004, the band opened the Sardinian concert of Children of Bodom and Helloween for Steel Day in Cagliari. In August 2004 they also won the Tim Tour contest in Sardinia, and in the end they played live on September 2004 at Piazza del Duomo in Milan. The band took part in Rock-TV programs like Database, Salaprove and played live on the Rock-TV Tour.
2005 - 2006
Thanks to the experience of the Steel Day of July 2004, Reel Fiction remained in contact with Helloween, in particular with the guitarist Sascha Gerstner. He listened to the pre-production of the band and decided to record in Germany a new demo EP "Transfer". The CD, recorded in Bamberg, went out in June 2005 and showcased the maturity, complexity and raw power of the Italian band with multinational roots. The CD gained immediate broad echo and appreciation in Italy and abroad. In July 2005 Reel Fiction took part once again in the Tim Tour and won for the second time the stage of Cagliari, winning also the participation at the finals in Turin and at further programs of Rock- TV, Salaprove, Database and Rock-TV Tour. The EP did well with an increasing number of fans in the United States. The band was noticed by Florida-based independent label the Komodo Dragon Records a division of Contiga Broadcasting Corporation International, and now is scheduled to attend to the 2007 Evil Darkness Tour (www.evildarkensstour.com). In October 2006, the band signed a recoding contract with Komodo Dragon Records and is currently working on a new album scheduled to be released by the end of 2007.
