Quick economics lesson on how New Jersey got the title "Garden State".
In an economic map of the united states, where food is the subject, New Jersey is the closest state to the center of the country. That center is New York City. For that center to be supported and people to survive, rings of agriculture are established. The west/midwest has cattle and grains. They are durable and can last through long transportation. As the rings get closer, the food becomes increasingly perishable. By the time you get to New Jersey you have the most perishable items. Produce. Where is produce grown? In Gardens. Hence we live in the Garden State. Simple, yet never thought about.
