About Me

Friends of Lulu is a national not-for-profit organization whose main purpose is to promote and encourage and promote female participation and readership in the comic book industry.
Some of the goals of the organization include:
* increasing female readership of comics *
* promoting the work of women in comics *
* offering networking opportunities and general support to women in comics *
* facilitating communication among women and men who share the organization's purpose *
FoL provides input to publishers, retailers, and the public on the kinds of comics that appeal to a female readership and on how to reach that readership. A hoped-for outgrowth of that expanded female reader base will be an increase in the number of females at all levels of the industry—in retailing, distribution, and publishing, as well as creating.
Other activities include publishing a recommended reading list, setting up local chapters, presenting members' work at conventions, offering seminars on select topics, compiling a mailing list of women in comics, and serving as a public relations clearinghouse to upgrade the public perception of comics in general.
Membership is open to women and men of all ages who support the organization's goals. You can join if you are a professional (a person who works or has worked in or on behalf of the comic book industry) or simply someone who reads and enjoys comics. If you are under 18 you are considered a "Jr. Lulu."
