Currently, I am at York University in Toronto, Ontario for graduate studies in Political Science. I did my undergrad at the University of Arkansas in Political Science and International Relations.
The main focus of my political work back in the U.S. is with the Communist Party USA and the Young Communist League, and with the peace movement. While I'm in Canada, I will be working with the Communist Party of Canada and the YCL of Canada. (hoping to help organize a YCL club at York!)
My political activities and interest in Marxism developed into an academic pursuit during my years at the UofA, ranging from research projects on socialist economics to study abroad. I have seen the new homeless of the 1990s in Red Square, toured the poor barrios of Venezuela, met with young communists in Beijing, talked with women's rights activists and academics in Vietnam, and listened to Fidel speak on the virtues of the Revolution in Santiago de Cuba. While visits to the lands of "really existing socialism" swept away some of my utopian images, they also solidified my belief that a better world is not only possible, but necessary.
"Man's dearest possession is life, and since it is only given to him once, he must live so as to feel no regrets for years without purpose, so as not be seared with the shame of a trivial past. He must live so that dying he can say: All my life and all my strength were given to the finest cause in the world--the liberation of mankind." --Nikolai Ostrovsky
