Even though Kamilah was brought into this world at Ft. Lee Virginia, in the US, there’s no doubt that she inherited a lot of her creative flavor from her parents who were born and raised in that beautiful island of Barbados. Kamilah was born into a military family with her father serving 20 years in the navy and her mother serving years in the army. Being 1 of 4 children she had a lot of company at home while her family traveled the world from Barbados to Germany. Eventually Kamilah settled into Atlanta, Georgia where she graduated from high school while developing a very impressive reputation for sewn-in-weaves and unique hair braiding designs but she did these for people at discount prices so all who came to her could walk away looking their very best. After high school Kamilah joined the army where she was that cute and sassy soldier who had her makeup done perfectly, her nails never broken and each strand of hair was immaculately in place. Not even the shiny brass, spit and polish of military protocol could dim her burning passion for fashion. Even in the service many people advised her to take the path to makeup artistry. Kamilah became a favorite customer at the MAC cosmetics counter that she visited on a regular basis. She learned to perfect the contouring, highlighting and proper application of facial cosmetics. Then, just like a scene from a Hollywood movie, she received a phone call from celebrity hair stylist Eboni Washington.. Eboni was at a video shoot and they did not have a makeup artist. Eboni wanted to know if Kamilah could come. Of course she would but, of course, Kamilah did not have any makeup products on hand. So, in a panic she made a mad dash to the nearest CVS store. Initially the sales people may have thought she was crazy but when she purchased over $300.00 worth of products the sales people were incredibly happy. They weren’t the only ones because Kamilah went to the video shoot and did her thing to such perfection that she has had many, many call backs ever since. Kamilah has been fortunate to train under several celebrity artists and has learned the fine art of airbrushing. While freelancing she was offered a position to help kick off the Kevyn Aucoin’s Makeup line at Neiman Marcus in the DC metro area. Again, this was out of some Hollywood script being written for her, because Kamilah had always looked up to Kevyn and read everything that Kevyn had written. Without hesitation Kamilah packed up her truck, drove across the Potomac and headed straight to DC. In her next career move Kamilah started working for MAC cosmetics and became their top sales artist. During this time she also served as a Makeup Instructor at the Vienna Academy of Arts and Sciences. The requests for her services became so overwhelming she had to hire other artists to assist her. When the time was right Kamilah left and focused primarily on her company GlamFaces.com. Since then Kamilah has worked with such designers as Ventige Soul (Designer for India Arie) and Lex Apparel. In the video work her makeup artistry can be seen in “Betcha Can’t Do It Like Me.†and “Laffy Taffy†(D4L), “Tilt Your Hat Back†(G-Money, featuring Pastor Troy) and “Let Me Hold You†(Bow Wow – Omarion). In the fashion world she has worked with Apple Bottom Jeans (photo shoot of Eva Pigford, Winner – America’s Next Top Model), AKA Productions Fashion Show, From The Bottom To The Top, the Georgia Force Cheerleaders Calendar Photo Shoot, Bronner Brother Hair Showcase Show, February 2005 & 2006. Kamilah has also volunteered her services for the Hurricane Katrina Benefit Concert hosted by Keith Sweat. Kamilah’s multi-talents include Airbrush Makeup Artist, Eyelash Extension Technician, Eyebrow Tinting and Spray Tanning. She also works in the media of photography, commercial photography, digital and video. Her work interests include Bridal, Fashion, Portraiture, Body and Art Painting.
