Hard Rock / Light Metal with Progressive Tendencies. Throw in lots of classic rock influence on a band who grew up during the 90's alternative scene. Then add some metalized 80's pop covers for good measure and you've got Of Dreams and Madness.
BioOf Dreams And Madness is a spider spinning a web of emotions and philosophies with its music. But the spinnerets of this hard-rock (light-metal) band produce more than just a sticky discharge that catches flies; these guys have bigger prey in mind. And the secret weapon that sets this group apart from its peers? FUN. ODAM is a fun and entertaining act with a wide appeal that – refreshingly – has maintained its artistic integrity by creating a unique and expressive musical experience.
ODAM has a history that has come full circle. Between ’98 and ’00, the four-piece assaulted the Connecticut metal scene under the name Dirge . It was a hell of a 2-year ride for the group, which crashed just prior to the release of their 1st album.
Fast forward to 2003 when Collard, Giacchi and Potvin reformed under the ODAM moniker. The purpose: to have fun transforming 80’s pop songs into ass-kicking metal tunes. After covering Gloria Estefan, Journey, Wham and others, the trio quickly realized ODAM ’s potential and decided to reenter the local music scene. In 2006, the band recorded their debut album of (mostly) original music, for which Laperle was invited as a guest vocalist. 2007 marked the official reunion and ODAM was a quartet once more, doing what they do best: having fun rocking out. From heavy grooves and gripping melodies to insightful lyrics and energetic shows, this band has something for everyone; but don’t take it from us (we are biased, after all), check out ODAM and let experience be your guide.
Frontman Daryl Laperle is metal incarnate. Bringing a sense of vitality wherever he goes, Darylcan’t help but infuse the band with unbridled energy. He is a master of the spotlight and a veteran vocalist of the localmetal scene. Always engaging, soulful and heartfelt (even when he’s singing about being disengaged, soulless andheartbroken), Daryl is a truly charismatic entertainer. He is the fire in the band’s belly. A must see on stage!
Bassist / singer Jon Collard ’s musical talents have always been impressive: from his early jazz days(trombone, trumpet, piano) to his innovative bass playing skills (forged from various metal projects) to his dynamic, yetalways powerful voice. In addition to his versatile musicianship, Jon also contributes a wealth of ideas to the band’swriting process by bringing out the progressive, melodic and groove sides of the group. A melting pot of influences, Jon iscertain to amaze from start to finish.
Guitarist Mike Potvin is a born rock-star. Growing up listening to rock legend Slash of Guns N Roses andvirtuoso Jim Matheos of Fates Warning, Mike brings the balls and chunk to the band. However, he is not limited to genericpower chords; Mike has an extensive music theory background and is perfectly comfortable softening things up. Utilizing his7-string guitars, his rocking parts are always tasteful and original.
And bringing up the rear is drummer John Giacchi . Employing a great deal of adaptability, John is more thanjust a simple timekeeper; he has a distinct musical identity within the band. Adopting the philosophy that drums can be justas musical as any “melodic†instrument, his creative parts tie together the band package. From thunderous double-bass beatsto syncopated funk grooves to Tool-esque odd meters to good ol’ rock and roll, John does it all – and it is always fun towatch him do it.
