“A voice steeped as much in the coffee houses of the 60’s as the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. A truly unique singer†Tom Noonan. 106.7 PBS FM
“Yet another significant musical talent has emerged in south western Victoria - Clare Younis. Her material is original, her playing is precise, and her voice soars." John Lamp. 94.7FM The Pulse
“ Never before has one channeled so superbly and aptly the vocal likeness of Natalie Merchant and Kate Bush, nor the song structure and eloquence of Joni Mitchell. Younis has an incredible, innate ability to project serene beauty through her music. Her songs evoke landscapes of painterly realities and heart-felt diaristic visions of life from the inside.†G.Claringbold
Born underground in the dry red North of Australia, Clarabelle Catkin Younis was raised in the deep south along the Great Ocean Road by an ex Beatles Groupie and legendary surf guitarist, the Evil Dr. Mal Ibu.
Here she was reared on a substantial diet of vinyl with a balanced intake of Joni, Cat, Ry Cooder and The Blues Brothers but had a tendency to overindulge on The Beatles.
Every night, Dr. Mal would search his soul and sing the oldest folk stories. Sometimes, when he was feeling cultured, he would lay Grieg on the decks and narrate Peer Gynt Suite.
After a brief stint on Young Talent Time, Clare grew up to be a classically trained soprano, but never quite felt comfortable with all the rules involved. So, in accordance with the stereotype, she finally escaped in search of her own unique style.
Clare traipsed the globe for many moons until her wild, wandering feet led her to Hollywood, CA. It called to her with an ‘ancient voice that sings into the hearts of artists who know too well it only brings a fleeting phantom feeling that the world has seen your worth…’
Here, our young and impressionable Heroine found herself an accidental member of a psychedelic music cult. She worked for a band who were quite mad, but meant well.
One day in the Barfly, CCY encountered a potent soul named Amy May (voice of a revolution) who intoned 'While it is a delicious feeling to lose oneself in the music of others, do not get swallowed whole. YOU TOO HAVE A VOICE. Use it.'
And thus our heroine bid farewell to her tree house in Laurel Canyon and journeyed home to the Otways whereupon the ears gathered and the voices spoke 'Oh Clare, as soon as we saw your red boots, we knew you'd returned to save us.' So this Baby stepped out of the corner, and she sang.
stay tuned my broken hearted friends.....it's not too late to seek a newer world.... x
