Black Cactus Killer is a Guelph, Ontario, Canada based band. Their sound can be described as atmospheric and energetic. Listeners are frequently captivated by the complexity and welcoming tone that Black Cactus Killer presents in their arrangements.
Formed in 2005, Black Cactus Killer draws on varying influences as brought forth by the diverse range of taste that each member brings to the band. Preferring to take the listener on a journey through sound, Black Cactus Killer has steered away from mainstream music, keeping the sound personal and at times overwhelming.
With the release of their self titled EP in late winter of 2007, Black Cactus Killer hit the road for a series of performances that would ultimately challenge their scope, sound and intentions. During that time, Black Cactus Killer were pleased to share the stage with the likes of: Elliott Brood, Jen Militia, The Sourkeys, The Saigon Hookers & Nonethewiser.
This fall brings a new approach for the band. They've been looking at their music in a much different way, progressing their sound into a much more complex experience for both the band and their listeners. They've hired a local film company to begin working on one of their songs, hoping to break away from the mainstream yet stay focused on their sound, visual appeal and direction.
Summer was spent relaxing, and they are now back in full swing with writing and preparing for upcoming performances through the fall and winter months. The live aspect of the band can be expected to change quite drastically from a simple rock show to a full out onslaught on the senses. Lighting and visuals will play a large roll in what is to come.
History
Black Cactus Killer was formed in 2005 by Elijah Lederman and Dave Barrett. Soon after, Justin Barrett joined the band on Bass. Gen Blender joined the band on Keyboard, but soon left due to creative and personal differences. Charlie Hack joined the band in late 2006, creating what is the current lineup of Black Cactus Killer:
