After spending close to a decade in the music scene in the drab and dreary town of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, most people would have given up by now. For Tahlequah native Daniel Dew, the fight to keep the local music scene alive is what inspires him. After spending the last four years fronting several punk rock-based bands, playing numerous shows, and expanding his musical horizons about as far as they can be stretched, Daniel felt that the music he was writing just wasn't going in the direction it was intended to. When asked about his previous projects, Dew says,
"I had the time of my life playing in those bands and I made some really great friends doing it. Some of them are still my close friends today, but a few of us just kind of had a falling out, you know? When you don't see eye to eye on things as a band and you can't make decisions as a group, you tend to argue about alot of petty things. When you're in my shoes and you're writing ninety percent of the songs and recording every piece of the material by yourself, (except for the drums) you start to feel as if you're a one man band. One day it just sort of became obvious to me that if I'm going to do all of the important things that keep the band running behind the scenes, I might as well just do it by myself, and for myself. So with that decision in mind, I turned my back on everything I ever knew and pretty much commited "career suicide" by becoming a solo artist. I lost three of my best friends in the process. It hurt alot, but in the end my decision turned out for the better. Sometimes you just have to take those risks, you know?"
Things certainly have been looking up for the singer/songwriter lately. With a few demos already under his belt and an EP due out this summer, he has already written the majority of his debut album which is scheduled for release shortly after Christmas 2006. Inspired by the likes of Yellowcard, Ben Folds Five, Motion City Soundtrack, and Coldplay; Daniel Dew is sure to turn heads in the music industry. With his exceptional approach and musical style he brings a unique sound that is all his own to the stage. Sporting an unheard of amount of musical experience for his age, this kid is going places.
