Omar "The Big O" HamiltonOmar Hamilton, founder and CEO of OHPsalms, LLC, has a simple philosophy: "To Think is An Incomplete Action." This mantra provides him with the direction and focus that marks all of the ventures in which he has engaged since graduating from Howard University. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Omar Hamilton was entrenched in the growth and sustenance of hip-hop into the mainstream culture virtue of location and exposure. The influence of his surroundings, coupled with his schooling, led him to make music and entertainment his business.
Omar first recognized his penchant for merging business and entertainment as a college student. At Howard, "O" coordinated many events for his fellow college students including panels, concerts, homecoming gatherings and the University's groundbreaking annual Hip-hop Conference. After college, Omar marched into the corporate world with his degree. But Omar realized that a world absent of entertainment in his daily life was one in which he could not live. So after spending his formative career years with companies such as Infinity Broadcasting and Viacom, Omar struck out on his own.
During his time at Infinity Broadcasting, Omar was mentored by the then president of Infinity/now current CEO of Sirius Satellite Radio; Mel Karmazin. Karmazin inspired him to create his own framework within to present his specific skills, which ultimately led him to seek business ownership. Omar chose to open a production company as his first venture, distributed through Sony Music. He served as executive producer to the first artist he ever signed. Omar learned quickly what the network of the entertainment world had to offer, and reveled in the creative experience of having a hip-hop artist signed to a major label.
While working as the head of a production company, Omar saw the need among his peers in the professional entertainment community to have regular dialogue about the growing hip-hop industry. He served as Business Development Manager for the "Real Stories Series", a bi-monthly forum sponsored by ASCAP (a performance rights company) to inform aspiring artists, producers, entrepreneurs and executives about their changing marketplace. He conceived the most popular panel in the series "What A&R Reps have to Say", which further blossomed into a regular forum that allowed everyday people to present their music to the industry's top executives. The forum was so successful in reaching the true consumer base that several labels and music organizations created programs based upon Omar's model.
In 2003, Hamilton partnered with independent labels home to Alternative, R&B, Rock and Hip-hop artists. Hamilton clearly has a gift for bringing people together and in addition to his current production work, he spent a great deal of his time supporting his partnership in a nation marketing and event planning firm based in New York City. As a seasoned event planner and promoter, Hamilton coordinates social gatherings in Manhattan that average 2000 patrons weekly. He consults regularly with schools and conferences across the nation reaching the young, affluent urban market. As of 2006 Omar was appointed Director of Special events for Howard University Alumni Club, NYC where he spearheaded events that rejuvenated Howard's presence in NYC which brought together thousands of alumni not only in the tri-state area, but across the country.
Hamilton's actions are the center of his value, and all of his ventures remain a part of the business of being "The Big O" - a connector and an urban market trendsetter. OHPsalms, LLC. remains the center by which he engages in all of his various roles as an entertainment and media consultant.Contact Info: [email protected]
