DAD describes 2 types of music I compose.
The experimental and improv stuff tends to be more dark and doomy.
The guitar & synth stuff tends to be more emotional and positive.
Over the years many different technics were used to produce the sounds.
Most have been based on some type of looping.
In the late 70s some pieces were done with the Eno/Fripp technic.
In the early to late 80s tape loops and digital delays were used.
Then came the Casio SK1. I spent hours, days, months sampling into it.
Later came the SK5 which gave 4 independent samples. A huge step forward.My first computer was an Amiga 500. I bought software called Studio Magic.
It was a great tool for creating loops. It had a basic sequencer and midi.
It used the amiga's stereo output to play 4 independent loops.
You could also manipulate the loops by moving the start and end points in real time.
This was the way I used it most of the time.
I later dabbled in more advanced sequencing with Dr. Ts software and a
E-Mu proteus with a cheap Casio keyboard with midi.
Then came the Digitech sampling pedal. It had 2 seconds of samplng time
and a trigger button for stuttering effect. I loved that thing.
Sadly it and my guitar were stolen after a gig at JRs in CliftonAfter a long period of inactivity I found a used Digitech 3 second rack delay
and coupled with an Ibanez DD I started looping bits of music from CDs.
This was the start of the "kissing wendy" period.
I later added another 1 sec DD and then a 4 sec DD into the rack.
I called it the "Time Machine" and played CDs, Keyboards & Guitar thru it.
In preparing for a performance I striped down to my Portable CD player
and 2 pedal delays mounted on a mic stand.
I later wanted to go stereo with the sound and found a used Digitech RP6.
It was a multi effects guitar pedal with Stereo pingpong and added another delay.
I used it with the CD player for about a week until I decided to try it with guitar.
That was pretty much the end of the sampling and start of the guitar stuff.
I later added a Line 6 DL4 and began looping the guitar.
I did alot of experimental stuff at first but then found myself composing
short melodic bits. This was the AntiDoom side.
Mostly hated by people who liked my darker material.
