I guess you could say that I am an urban girl with a southern heart. I was born in MS but have lived in MD for most of my life. While I love the city, shopping, glamour etc, I am actually very simple at heart. Let's just say that I am probably 3 parts clutsy goofball, 2 parts cutesy with a dallup of grace and elegance on the side...I really have to thank my parents for my musical interests/abilities since they are the ones who have fostered any talent I have ever had. My mom and dad both sing (they have a Hindi parody CD!) and my dad plays the tablas as well. I used to sing in Hindi too when I was little, but got more into Western alternative/pop as I got older. I basically listened to whatever my older sister did. At somepoint she discovered Tori Amos and, of course, I did along with her. Amos is a big influence for me mainly because I have just been listening to her music for so long, so it bleeds into my style a bit. But of course, I have had many more musical influences since then, and a whole style of my own which I hope to continue to discover as I write more music. As for the singing, it always came naturally to me, but I was very shy about it. When I was 5, I was actually outgoing for a period of time. My mom would take me and my sister to these parties, and I would often just stand up in the middle of the party to announce to everyone that I was going to sing for them.As I got a little older though, I started learning piano and usually stuck to writing instrumental pieces in my early teens. After my first break-up in highschool, I was awakened to the idea of of song-writing as a form of healing and self-expression.Since then, the songwriter in me is very much alive. I love writing songs with and without lyrics...whatever best expresses my mood and feelings. Now I am shifting my focus from crafting songs/lyrics to the production of the song. I'm developing my ear for production, and I can say that it's an art in itself!I have so much more to learn still, but along the way, I hope you enjoy what I'm creating and that maybe I can make someone feel the way I do when I listen to my favorite songs/artists. Thanks for stopping by :) ~Nita
