The first band I ever managed was my roommate's band in Costa Mesa in the late '80's. They ruled and are still my all time favorite band. I stopped managing them when I got a job at the label that signed them. In 1992 I moved to San Diego for a job at Cargo Records. They had some good releases back then and I had a friend there, so it was a good fit. I met some good people at Cargo and in San Diego. How I started managing bands again in San Diego is a bit of a boring story, but I'll type it here. Sometime in 1992 there was a knock on my apartment door at about 10pm. I was laying on the couch in my boxers watching tv (hey, it was a weekday). I answered the door and my friend (and singer for a SD band and guitar player for another) was standing there and said, "What are you doing? C'Mon, let's go get a beer at Pac Shores." We walked over to Pac Shores (no, not in my boxers), we sat at the bar, we got our beers and my friend said, "Quit your job and manage my bands." I said no at first as I had just moved from Orange County to San Diego for the job. I uprooted my whole little world for that job and was a little nervous about managing bands and not having a steady income. I thought about it for a while and quit my job and started 103 Degrees Management late in 1992 in San Diego in my apartment in Ocean Beach. I quickly discovered that it is difficult to work out of your house. By 2:00 in the afternoon everyday I would end up on the couch watching tv instead of working. So I moved to an office that I shared with an old friend from SST and book publisher at the time. That was a great office. It shares a wall with The Casbah (I never missed a show). 103 Degrees managed several cool bands over the years, some from San Diego, some from Orange County. One of the bands was SUPERNOVA. Back in 2005 (or was it 2006) when we were made aware of some reality tv show band wanting to use the SUPERNOVA name, I knew that SUPERNOVA already existed and I wanted to help the band in any way I could. Now located in Long Beach, CA 103 Degrees Management has re-opened our doors to help Supernova and to STAY SHINY.
2008 - I have recently been back in touch with another band I worked with "back in the day" and have started helping them with various rock related items. I am very excited about it and very happy to be re-connected with these guys as we had lost touch over the years and they were (and are) really good friends of mine. More to follow when something exciting comes up
