Jack Cooper's writing and performing style has drawn media attention throughout North America. His latest CD garnered radio airplay on the CBC, BBC and NPR radio networks. His album has drawn favourable reviews from roots reviewer Robert Reid and from Penguin Eggs, Canada's roots music magazine. The album was selected as one of the top twelve DIY recordings in the December '03 issue of Performing Songwriter magazine, the premier songwriting magazine in the U.S.In recent years, Jack has performed at folk clubs and acoustic venues throughout Southern Ontario. He has shared stages with Valdy, Nancy White and Ron Hynes and has delighted audiences with his warm, engaging style.
Jack grew up outside of New York City and has lived in the Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph areas for the past eighteen years. Jack was one of the founders of Kitchener-Waterloo's Black Walnut Folk Club and has established himself as a mainstay of the local music community. Jack is usually joined by Ken Brown, long time veteran in the folk community, on standup bass. Ken, in addition to oozing artistry and having much fuller hair than Jack has, produces many of the region's fine recordings and has been described by the media as "talented-looking". Jack plays both guitar and piano, and sneaks in the occasional hamonica riff when Ken isn't looking..
