Everything After was officially formed in late 2006, and since then, they have quickly crafted a sound that they can truly call their own. Their songs, which are built around thick guitar riffs, catchy melodies, and soaring lead vocals, are inspired by honest emotions and real life experiences. The band consists of Dana Andrews, known from last season’s CBS Rockstar: Supernova, and four former members of Pause For Effect. Andrews pushed her way through 25,000 contenders to land herself as a finalist on the CBS show; which aired in 9 different countries. Pause For Effect also made a name for themselves with their touring base of 16 different states, where they moved over 4,000 CDs and were featured in Vanity Fair’s music issue (November 2004). Driving toward national exposure as a group, Everything After is tearing out of Columbia, SC with an intelligent and modern sound. Their music achieves an attitude and vulnerability that’s missing in most modern rock, and their live show is explosive. Having only been established since late 2006, this band has accomplished more in one year than the average band does in ten.
For two months (March and April of 2007), the band received more radio air play than "any other unsigned artist in America" in the Rock formats (according to MediaBasemusic.com's National Air Play Charts). Currently, they have gotten over 1,500 spins on major broadcast channels for their single 'Not A Lie'. Because of this constant support from regional radio, Everything After became the second most played unsigned rock band in America for 2007.
In 2007, Everything After opened for Buckcherry, Three Days Grace, Crossfade, 7 Mary 3, Hanson, Drivin' n Cryin', and Needtobreathe at venues including The House of Blues (Myrtle Beach, SC), Headliner’s Mainstage (Columbia, SC), The Music Farm (Charleston, SC), The Lincoln Theater (Raleigh, NC), Amos’ Southend (Charlotte, NC), The Imperial Theater (Augusta, GA), The Handlebar (Greenville, SC), The Mission (Augusta, GA), and The Windjammer (Isle of Palms, SC).
A brief history:
Dana began her music career by performing in various groups in her hometown of Augusta, GA. Guitarist Kevin Mitchum, guitarist Wes Wikel, bassist Mark Cox, and drummer Jody Wilson all made a name for themselves while playing in Pause For Effect. In the time they were together, Pause For Effect released two studio albums and sold more than 3,000 CD's without the benefit of radio play or distribution. They also played more than 350 shows over a 16-state touring base, and shared the stage with some of rocks biggest acts (including Maroon 5, Collective Soul, Vertical Horizon, Sister Hazel, Tonic, and Better Than Ezra). All of their hard work did not go unnoticed, and the band received a full-page feature in Vanity Fair magazine's annual Music Issue in 2004 and a two year Budweiser True Music sponsorship. The group disbanded in May of 2005, but Kevin, Wes, Mark, and Jody decided to continue working together.
The guys immediately got to work on new material. It didn't take them long to realize that a new musical direction was unfolding during their rehearsals, so they decided to search for a new singer. After listening to countless demos and auditioning several hopeful vocalists, they met Dana near the end of 2005. After a couple of rehearsals together, it was apparent that their new lineup was working, so the band got down to business in their home studio and recorded a self-produced demo in mid 2006.
Just weeks after the completion of that demo, Dana received word that she would be heading to L.A. for the summer to take part in the hit CBS television show "Rockstar: Supernova". After beginning the audition process as one of over 25,000 contestants six months earlier, she ended up as one of the 15 finalists selected to participate before a worldwide audience. After a productive six week run on the show, she relocated to Columbia, SC in August 2006 to join the band full time.
Upon Dana's return, the band wasted no time in getting back to work, and immediately hooked up with the production team of Rin Vinson and Aaron Thompson in Atlanta, GA to record two tracks. Both of those tracks ("Untied, Unbound" and "Not A Lie") received significant regional radio play, which prompted the band to return to Atlanta sooner than expected to finish up their debut E.P. That E.P., titled "The Lamp Store Sessions", was finished in February 2007 and was released a month later in late April.
2007 produced many exciting moments for Everything After. In addition to finishing their first album, their hometown rock station (WARQ 93.5) decided to add "Not A Lie" into heavy rotation in January. This is nearly unheard of for an unsigned band, and the song was in the stations top 5 for nearly 5 months (and has been receiving excellent feedback from the station's "listener call out" data). This feedback has also lead other stations in the area to add the song to their playlists, further intensifying the exposure for the band. The band is currently getting significant radio play in four major radio markets.
All of this great exposure hasn't been limited to radio, however. In February, the popular indie music website Alternative Addiction selected Everything After as its "Indie Spotlight Band of the Month" for the month of March. With the site logging more than 5,000 visitors per day, it has introduced the band to a national audience that will surely continue to grow. In November of '07, "The Lamp Store Sessions" was named "Best Local CD" by the readers of the Free Times (Columbia, SC).
