Orlando Napier Music

Orlando Napier’s music is a new millennium melding of pop, rock and r&b with an impressive collection of melodies coupled with serious piano chops, narrative lyrics and a delivery reminiscent of the day when songs told real stories and the stories made you want to listen. The source of his music is partly in his creative upbringing: “I grew up on music, even in the womb, I suppose. I was always around pianos and guitars and saxes, and there was always music playing in the house, usually The Beatles, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Al Green, Frank Sinatra. My dad was always playing sax or piano, guitar, flute, my mom played classical piano”. This all lead quite naturally to the young Orlando learning to sing and play the piano, and building a set of musical skills for the future.At 18, Orlando was living in London. He bought a keyboard and began playing gigs at pubs with his friends. It was then that he experienced the first rush of live performance. Back in the States he started playing keyboard with The Cats 'n' Dogs, his father's band. Soon he started taking on the lead vocals.The spark of songwriting came soon after. Way Too Short was Orlando's first song and since then he's never let up: "Songwriting's like everything else. You have to get up every day and do It. Sometimes its total crap but then sometimes something great happens and the song sort of writes itself. You just have to be relentless". Where does Orlando see his performance and song writing ten years from now? “I see myself having a hell of a lot of songs by then, really good ones that are going to stick with people. The stuff I do, I know in my heart it’s good, I know it. When people listen to my music they enjoy it and they want to hear the songs again. My performances are always different, always unique. No matter how many times I play a tune I’ll come at it from a different angle”.The fire and passion of Orlando’s performances are reaching an ever-growing audience. With an expanding repertoire of original music and an always engaging live show, Orlando is set to become an artist of timeless stature. “I want people to know my music, I want them to relate to it. When people say that a certain lyric touched them, or they sing the lyrics to my tunes when I’m playing them, shit, that’s the ultimate compliment”.
