One of America's radio broadcast innovators, John McMullen has spent most of his professional life working in local, network, internet and satellite radio. A native of Seattle, McMullen now resides in Palm Springs where he oversees all programming and operations for Morris Desert Radio Group's five News/Talk, Sports and Spanish Talk & Oldies radio stations.
Prior to landing in the desert, John was the first talk host and Director of Talk & Entertainment Programming at SIRIUS Satellite Radio in New York City and Los Angeles. He created and led the company's first original talk channels, and was recognized with honors including the coveted international New York Festival Award for National News.
McMullen's combination of entrepreneurial skill, professional passion and creativity in the broadcast medium led to his founding of Stellar Networks, Inc., one of the first successful webcasting companies in the world. He successfully raised several million in venture capital from senior Goldman Sachs alums and respected broadcast leaders like Frank N. Magid Associates and Stanley Hubbard (Hubbard Broadcasting). At Stellar Networks, John created niche-audience talk and entertainment programming services including GAYBC Radio and Athena Radio.
Earlier in John McMullen's career, he worked for both local radio stations and network/syndication companies since age 12, when he began working at a family-operated station in the Pacific Northwest. John did take a three year absence from broadcasting in 1993, when he worked in product development and marketing for software manufacturers Aldus (acquired by Adobe Systems in 1994) and RealNetworks (then-Progressive Networks, Inc.).
McMullen has interviewed more than 3,000 guests from all walks of life. He has anchored national coverage from three national political conventions (DNC 2000 in Los Angeles, DNC 2004 in Boston, RNC 2004 in New York City). He has been featured on ABC World News Tonight, CNBC's Bullseye, CNN, CBS News on LOGO, and in publications including The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Seattle Times, Associated Press and Newsweek magazine. In 2003, OUT Magazine name McMullen as one of the "OUT 100" Most Important People of the Year. John also won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Interactive Media in 1998.
In addition to John's work in Palm Springs, he is a partner in the broadcast production firm, McMullen|Guiney Productions and serves as Executive Producer of the Bob Guiney Show, hosted by the former ABC TV Bachelor (season 4) and national correspondent for The View, as well as host of several cable television programs, including TLC's Date My House.
